The Grand Ascent Hillclimb 2012

On Tuesday 12/11, you'll get to see a classic episode of Chasing Classic Cars where Wayne Carini goes through his plan to market and then sell th Porsche Special Hill Climb Car. He takes it to the Hershey Hill Climb race to put it through its paces and has a darn good time doing it. But that doesn't stop him from taking it to auction.

THough the Hill Climb took place back in June, we were lucky enough to have Kenneth Visser - automobile fan, blogger and photographer extraordinaire on site and reporting back on the action. Take a walk down memory lane below, and don't forget to tune in to Chasing Classic Cars starting on Tuesday 12/11 starting at 9p.

Another fine tradition has been reignited with the second running of the The Grand Ascent Hillclimb held on the grounds of the Hershey Hotel.  This is a VSCCA sanctioned hill climb exhibition and features a wide variety historic racing cars thundering up a five turn three quarters of a mile long course.  A unique opportunity to see, hear and smell vintage race cars slamming gears.  This event was reignited with the start of the Elegance At Hershey.  We'll talk more about the Concours later.  Let's take a look at some of the neat machinery that was attacking the hill.

Wayne Carini was selected as the Honary Grand Marshall of the Grand Ascent.  He brought his smile and his driving skills to the hill.

Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars took the Bill Rutan VW* special with a 356 four cam motor up the hill.  Wayne spoke about the rides up later "I had a blast"  And his sub 57 second times were reflective of his blistering pace.

Epic Poker: Who is Doyle Brunson?

On December 14, 2011, Epic Poker awarded its first Lifetime Card. Its recipient, Doyle Brunson, has universally been recognized as the leading ambassador for professional poker and a mentor for generations of players. For fifty years, he has been playing – and winning – in the biggest cash games in the world and since the inception of the World Series of Poker, he has been its greatest star.

At a ceremony before Epic’s Mix-Max Main Event, Brunson’s colleagues and admirers watched Commissioner Annie Duke present him with a special Lifetime Member ring unveil a banner that will forever hang in Epic Poker’s Hall of Champions.

It’s no surprise that Brunson’s nickname is the Godfather of Poker.

Brunson started his poker career by playing in illegal games in Texas with a friend, Dwayne Hamilton. They eventually began traveling around, playing more and in bigger games. These illegal games were usually run by criminals in organized crime, making these games quite a risky business. When Brunson and Hamilton made their first trip to Las Vegas to gamble, they lost all their money – a six figure amount! They decided to stop playing together.

Brunson continued to play, successfully. He became the first two-time World Series of Poker main event champion to win consecutively. He wrote a book about poker that gave regular players insight into how professional poker players play. The book became so widely used that Brunson believes it ended up costing him money.

In his lifetime the Godfather of Poker earned more than $6 million in poker.

Watch Epic Poker tonight at 10pm to see Doyle Brunson receive his award!

How to Become a Professional Poker Player

By Doris Molenaar Vel-blog-epic-poker-022112
Who doesn’t dream of traveling the world, making millions, and becoming famous by playing a game they love?

So how do you do it? Well, I don’t really know. My poker skills are rather limited: when I hear the term “Rake” I think of one of those comb-like things you use to gather leaves, and similarly for the word “bumhunter,” someone who refuses to play against winning players would be about the last thing that comes to mind. But I do want to help you out with your dreams, so for such life questions I find Yahoo answers.

Like, “i cant give u an advice about being a proffesional in this game.. but the advice that i can give is to stay away from it coz no matter how good u r in it u will stay a loser beleive me no one wins in this game,” says Yahoo answerer Nora 7. Thanks, but that’s no help at all.

Some useful information that I did gather however, are the following 8 points:

How to Keep a Poker Face

Vel-blog-poker-face-110811It can be a challenge: sometimes when you play a card, your whole body is telling you to curl up in a corner, cry silently and pray that no one else plays a card at all; other times you’d like to point at everyone at your table and celebrate “OH YEAH, full house, loserssss!” But of course that would not at all be effective in winning a game.  If you want to be a successful poker player, you’re going to have to work on your poker face...

Think of these as “bucket list ideas,” except for the dying part. Here are principles meant to inspire people who don't plan on dying for decades … if ever.
