I had the good fortune of being on the receiving end of an invitation to go check out the pre-release party for the brand new McLaren 570-S.  The star-studded event was held at the Longview Gallery on 9th St. NW in Washington DC.

And of course, what do you think the first thing we see in front of the gallery?

The first of five McLaren 650S models that were on site!  This British supercar delivers 671 hp to the rear wheels.  Starting around $270,000 for the coupe and $283,000 for the convertible, this speedster will dominate a highly competitive market with a finite number of potential consumers.

Sideswiped by a rock? No, THE Rock.

As Augie Bridges of Wakefield, Mass. crossed the street to assess the new damage to his left side view mirror, he immediately came face to face with the culprit. Bridges’s mirror had been smashed a rock. It wasn’t just any rock, however. International superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson accidentally caused the damage while driving to a movie set nearby. The San Andreas and Furious 7 star claimed via an Instagram post that he was distracted behind the wheel due to blasting music and his subsequent “one man dance party”.
Johnson, channeling his action-movie macho, whipped his truck around and rushed back to the scene. He attempted to present his registration and insurance information, but Bridges was too starstruck by the shear size of the former professional wrestler to engage. After a breath of silence, Bridges broke out laughing.
“Wow, this is gonna be an awesome story,” said Bridges to Johnson, who stands at hulking 6’5''. The two, according to Johnson, stood in the street “laughing like two ol’ crazy buddies”.

In the days following the incident, Johnson checked in on his unlikely pal. Bridges refused to accept any payment from the megastar and fixed the mirror himself. Johnson called out Bridges on his Instagram account for being “so cool about the whole thing”. The post has over 500,000 likes and 6,500 comments. For Bridges, the story of a lifetime set in the small Boston suburb is enough compensation.
As a star in the Fast and Furious franchise, Johnson has had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of some of the world's most drool-worthy vehicles. Check out Rick Hendrick gush over his favorite iconic movie car the "Mello Yellow" from Days of Thunder on Velocity's AmeriCarna.

What Does a Movie Villain Drive? A Stunning Concept Roadster

If ever a movie car was going to leave us breathless it would probably by the “1942 V16 Hydra Schmidt Roadster.” Likely you’ll forget all about the Batmobile.

This movie car was created to be the personal car of Johann Schmidt alias Red Skull – and Captain America’s nemesis. Red Skull is the ultimate baddie, not only being one of Hitler’s henchmen but also a member of a secret terrorist society called Hydra. With access to alien technology the Hydra Roadster earned the title of the fastest fictitious car in the comics.

The Grand Ascent Hillclimb 2012

On Tuesday 12/11, you'll get to see a classic episode of Chasing Classic Cars where Wayne Carini goes through his plan to market and then sell th Porsche Special Hill Climb Car. He takes it to the Hershey Hill Climb race to put it through its paces and has a darn good time doing it. But that doesn't stop him from taking it to auction.

THough the Hill Climb took place back in June, we were lucky enough to have Kenneth Visser - automobile fan, blogger and photographer extraordinaire on site and reporting back on the action. Take a walk down memory lane below, and don't forget to tune in to Chasing Classic Cars starting on Tuesday 12/11 starting at 9p.

Another fine tradition has been reignited with the second running of the The Grand Ascent Hillclimb held on the grounds of the Hershey Hotel.  This is a VSCCA sanctioned hill climb exhibition and features a wide variety historic racing cars thundering up a five turn three quarters of a mile long course.  A unique opportunity to see, hear and smell vintage race cars slamming gears.  This event was reignited with the start of the Elegance At Hershey.  We'll talk more about the Concours later.  Let's take a look at some of the neat machinery that was attacking the hill.

Wayne Carini was selected as the Honary Grand Marshall of the Grand Ascent.  He brought his smile and his driving skills to the hill.

Wheeler Dealers: The Porsche 944 dreamy!

by Eileen Marable

You guys know my love of cars in the movies and TV shows. I often feel like the cars are actually a member of the cast because they are so tied to the plot or to the picture painted about their human owners.

The Porsche 944 really didn’t need any help from the movies or TV to become a classic. It was released to great acclaim in 1982 and was considered to be more refined and balanced than it’s predecessor – the 924.
