Japan Unveils a Poop Powered Motorcycle

09/04/2012

Yes, you did read correctly. The Toilet Bike Neo is a three-wheeled “trike” with a 250cc engine that features a porcelain throne as a seat; appropriate since it is powered from poop.

Before any alarm or performance anxiety sets in, let’s be clear. The poop we’re talking about is household and livestock waste that’s been converted into biogas. It has a range of 180 miles on one tank of animal waste – and just recently finished an 876 mile journey across Japan.

This gloriously strange invention comes from Japanese toilet company TOTO. They aren’t in the business of producing these bikes – this one is a one of a kind model that is used to gain attention for the company’s development of environmentally friendly products like low water use toilets and shower-heads.

It goes without saying this special trike talks – what it says we don’t know. What we can say is this is one epic marketing stunt.
