Do You Have a Need For Speed? Then You Need The Isle of Man TT
09/26/2012
Yes, it’s true. The event you’ve been waiting for – The Isle of Man TT airs tomorrow at 7p E/P! For anyone who loves motorcycles and motorcycle racing, it is THE event of the year (ok, save for a few GP races here and there).
The Isle of Man TT is special though. It’s steeped in tradition, dating all the way back to 1907 when Charlie Collier won the race riding a Matchless going at the average speed of 38 mph.
Are you laughing? I bet you are. These days, speeds reach well – let’s repeat – WELL over 100mph. In fact, just this year Michael Rutter was the first man to break the ton on an electric bike. That’s how far this race has come.
It’s a monster of a race with insane turns and hills – it is after all run on the streets of the Isle of Man so this is no cakewalk.
Check out some snippets of the action below and tune in to The Isle of Man TT tomorrow at 7p E/P!

I would love a dvd copy of this broadcast. I watched some but unfortunately fell asleep as I had to work early in the a.m. Or if it's being rebroadcast, could you please let us know as many would like to see it again! Thanks Mike

Having been to many IOM TT's & Manx Grand Prix, even taking a group of Amaerican Freinds in 2007, it was fantatsic to see such amazing coverage on Velocity last night. Great photography and onboard shots... I was reliving the thrill I always get when riding around the course in friont of my HDTV!
Is there any plans to repeat this fantatsic coverage so all my friends can see this amazing race coverage of the BEST motorcycling experience anyone could experience?

Velocity, is there any way I could purchase a CD copy of the 2012 Isle of Mann Races? I can watch it on my TV in Ohio this evening but I would like to have a recording to take to Florida. My neighbor raced in the Isle of Mann many years ago and even held the lap record for a couple of years for his class. Unfortunately he does not subscribe to cable so a copy would really help.
Tks.,

It's great to see interest building in the TT, here in the U.S. I think the Isle of Man has a higher profile now, among American motorsport fans, than it has had since at least the end of the G.P. era in the early '70s.
When you're watching this year's races, it will be hard not to wonder, "What's it like?" The thing is, the experience that the stars of real-roads racing have is almost nothing like the experience an average Joe would have, if he found himself thrust into the TT.
In 2001, I quit my job, sold everything I owned, and moved to the Isle of Man, where I trained for, qualified for, and finished two TT races. I may have been almost the least-talented, most-cowardly TT racer of all time!
My memoir, Riding Man, is currently in development as a feature film. If it comes together, it will be the first time that a mass audience will learn -- not only what the TT is, but -- just how massive and inspiring a challenge it is for a regular guy.
