Please Drool With Me Over This Mercedes!
Mercedes Benz has just added to its line, and for the record, I know I can’t afford it. I can’t having someone else to drool with me though, so behold the new Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT. Isn’t she a beaut?
For the record, I drool not just because I love the look of the car. There was never a doubt that the car would have the same super luxurious look of its predecessors. I’ve always appreciated that the line didn’t overdo it on the curves or bling (you can add that later). This is a clean, purpose-built roadster.
Well, gull-wing doors, some extra exterior chrome and red brake calipers could be called bling I suppose…
The real updates to this Merc involve working out a few of the gearbox problems. In manual mode the gear change was slow due to using default electronic gear-change mapping from the gearbox manufacturers – this surprising limitation was a casualty of time constraints.
So fast forward to the upgraded AMG – yep, those manual gear changes are quick and smooth. This does a lot to accentuate what’s under the hood. The power is up to 591 hp and torque to 480 ft lbs.
The inside carries the black Alcantara as standard on all driver touch-points, completing the glossy black and chrome (with hints of red) look; a leather package is optional. Just to make it clear that the big change is output, they’ve even added “rev-limit” LEDs to the instrument package. That’s race car style.
