Do You Have a Type? Why Women Are Attracted to Certain Men

11/28/2012

This past week I went to the latest Twilight movie (in the name of research, of course). Before, during, and after the movie, I could not help but overhear girlfriends passionately debating who was more attractive, Edward or Jacob. Why are people physically attracted to a certain “type” or “look”?

Researchers have found that one reason we are attracted to certain physical features is related to the physical features of our parents. Women tend to be attracted to romantic partners who physically resemble their father’s hair color, eye color, body hair, and facial features. It’s also interesting that this attraction to mates with similar features to their fathers is strongest when they report that there was a good relationship with their fathers.

Time to 'fess up. Does your partner resemble your dad?
