JJ's Feedback Blog: 3 Ways to Lose Weight on Vacation
07/22/2012
CONGRATULATIONS! You went on vacation and you didn’t gain weight!!!!! Now next time use these strategies and you will even lose weight while still having fun!!!
- Try new activities that get you moving. You said that you were swimming in the ocean - that is a perfect example of taking advantage of different activities that you wouldn’t normally get to do at home. I actually used to live in Ft. Lauderdale and a few other fun things to do – walk/jog on the strand, power walk on the beach, rollerblade in Birch State Park, bike down A1A and go dancing down in South Beach (hey, it counts!!!)
- Pick your shots. Allow yourself a cheat “treat” daily. That's ONE, not several…so it’s either the black and white cookie (not really worth it as you realized) or a margarita, but not both. My choice is to go for things that you couldn’t normally have where you live. For example, you are in South Florida so conch fritters or a mango daiquiri would make more sense than a black and white cookie. But you can also have red conch chowder and a fresh mango with lime and enjoy the “tastes” of Florida without doing your diet in.
- Set a goal before you go and build in a reward. We are at our best when we are challenged. You already did this with your 7-pound goal this month. Think about the next time you plan on going on vacation and decide that you are going to lose 2 pounds. You then weigh in before you go, weigh in weekly while gone, and record what you are eating (what you measure you can improve). And best of all, engage your support system while there. Decide on a great reward for following through. Of course the best reward is coming home after having a fabulous time, losing weight, and realizing that you can have fun without doing your diet in (yes, I promise you can!).
So now it is time to get back on the straight and narrow. Since you are between shows, this is a great time to do some double workouts - i.e. some cardio interval training like dance videos in the morning and then a resistance video in the afternoon. Be sure to write it all down – anything that you eat or drink gets reported. It makes you think twice about everything that you do and mindfulness is hugely important in weight loss.
And I am going to throw out a challenge here…let’s go for 10 pounds!!! I know you can do it – so let’s go, honey! You are so close, you are doing so well, it’s your time, go for it!

Thank you for such an amazing post. Now, this proofs that we can still keep ourselves healthy despite wherever or whenever you are. It's how we think and want that will ultimately motivates us to do it. If we aim to be healthy and fit, we will act upon so even on vacations. Cheers
