4 Dating Tips From Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar
Dating as a member of the multitudinous Duggar clan is anything but typical. Just ask Jessa Duggar, the family's 20-year-old daughter, who recently got in a relationship with 18-year-old Ben Seewald.
The pair met at church, and indeed, much of their courting has centered around their faith. Per Michelle and Jim Bob's instructions, "They are enjoying getting to know each other and are recommending sermons to one another.”
Michelle and Jim Bob actually have quite a few ideas about dating. Here are there tips for families.
1. Make it a family affair: Take an interest in who your kids are dating. And include them in family events, when appropriate. Jim Bob and Michelle monitor the couple's texts, which have mostly been oriented around discussions of scripture, and they invite Ben to join them on family outings.
2. Check 'em out: And trust your instincts. "When a guy is pursuing your daughter, you want to check him out and see if there are any red flags,” said Jim Bob. “With Ben, there hasn’t been. He is very sharp. It appears like a match made in heaven.”
3. Create boundaries: “Dad allowed them to do a side hug when they were officially courting,” explained Michelle. The Duggar family also believes that a couple should refrain from kissing until marriage -- and daughter Jessa agrees. "They agreed that would be the only contact they should have.”
4. Find partners with similar values: “He’s the first one she has shown interest in that has a spiritual focus and legitimate calling about ministry work,” said Jim Bob.
