The "Gypsy Sisters" You Know and Love Are Back
01/14/2013
Who could forget the slap heard 'round the world from last summer's most viral (and violent!) video?
If you've been wondering what happened to Mellie, the self-proclaimed black sheep of the Stanley family, wonder no more! She's back -- along with big sis Nettie, cousin Kayla and sister-in-law Laura. The women make up the rowdy ensemble of Gypsy Sisters, premiering Feb. 10.
Wild and wonderful West Virginia is the setting for the blinged-out brouhaha. Mother hen Nettie is keeping a close eye on Mellie, whose behavior lately has been anything but proper for a young, single gypsy woman. Mellie's making a living and searching for love. Meanwhile, Kayla's house is a nonstop circus since she's taken in Laura's family.
When the four women get together -- whether it's for a little fun or for some serious family business -- the fists come out. Grab your bleach and your tightest dress. You're going to want to look good for this premiere. Watch the sneak peek below!
Gypsy Sisters starts Sunday, February 10 9|8c.

I am from wyoming county, WV and I think it is good to know what types of cultures are around me. I, unlike some other people, think that TLC is living up to its name as the learning channel because without this show being aired, I would have never known about the gypsy culture and that there are actually gypsies in West Virginia.

I had to turn it off when the ladies were fighting in front of their children. I can't believe that child social services hasn't been called. Poor little kids.

I really wish that Melly wouldn't act out the way she does. She's getting older and it just looks stupid. When I see her getting drunk I just turn the channel.

I have not wasted one moment of my life watching this trash tv. The commercials are bad enough... and even those 30 seconds of my life, I cannot get back. What WONDERFUL ways to show young women to behave in a way that makes them appear ignorant, cheap and foul mouthed! We have enough of this in our country, why are we glorifying it?!?! Traveling abroad, this is how we, as American women, are perceived. I have to prove that I am not a foul mouthed, ignorant, self absorbed American and show we are NOT all like this. TLC really can't find anything better to air than these white trash shows? Come on!!!! Pathetic!!!

TLC, contrary to its name (The Learning Channel), which might mistakenly lead you to believe you could actually learn something valuable by watching its programming, has sunk to the depths of depravity by showcasing a group of women whose lifestyles (especially Mellie) depict a lack of self-respect and even intelligence. None of these women possess even a high school education, and it shows. They had more than their "15 minutes of fame" when you aired Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. They, like Honey Boo Boo, do not warrant further "stardom." All four of the sisters are being taken advantage of by allowing TLC to make such fools out of them. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with that comment, as if what we see is an accurate depiction of their lives, they are doing a great job of making fools of themselves all on their own. TLC needs to "go back to its roots" and resume showing tasteful and educational material or it's going to continue to lose viewers.

After reading the comments that were made on this page about my gypsy culture I have a few things to say to a couple of people on here! The first person I would like to address is JPPSOLADY- you call yourself a lady. Well I think that you are a very rude and ignorant nobody who knows nothing about the gypsy lifestyles. The stanley famiily is only 1 family in that area of WV. I'm not from there nor have I ever been there but I only can assume that there are many other families that live there that makes that area the way it. Is. So u can't just blame the 1 gypsy family that you see on tv.
The nexted person I will address is LISA:
You wanna call my people thieves huh! What gives you the right. To stereotype every gypsy in the world and try to down grade us as people! Maybe you had one bad experience with someone but that does not make everyone of us a thief or a bad person. Scammers huh so I guess your trying to say the only scammers in the world are those of the gypsy ethnic WRONG hunny you need to check your facts. And maybe you would learn a thing or two.
I'm very dissapointed at the way people are being so stereotypical of the gypsy culture. You people don't even know. You don't know the kind of people we are. We love everyone we would feed our worst enemy take a stranger in off the street buy a family in need christmas for their kids if they needeed help. Fact is that the gypsy culture has a huge heart and love everyone we would help anyone nomatter what your race is. .yes there maybe a few bad seeds in the culture but that is in every culture not just the gypsys the people on here that have nothing better to do with there life but to be racist against us maybe you should try and learn about us before you believe steriotypes about us and really I'm going to pray for you people cause you really need help and need to be freed of your evilness you have in your body mind and spirit! And oh yea by the way jjpsolady I'm from md and there's more gypsys around the world then you know of so I would watch yourselves before you go runnin your mouths bout my kind cause we take it serious and hey sense you belive your steriotypes don't forget that we have very bad tempers and we are crazy!

And, TLC, shame on you for showing such racist programing! Would you show any other ethnic group like this? Have you checked your facts before you stereotype a whole ethnic group? These people were not raised as true rumnichell. This is the same thing you are doing with shows like Honey Boo Boo. You exploit people who want to be "famous" and make fools of them for your audience.
Posted by: brothersgirl | 02/18/2013 at 08:22 PM
You are a disgrace! I am rumnichel and don't know anyone like you. Never a stripper! Stanleys! they aren't even rumnus but mumpers. you don't know what you are talking about and how dare you give the rest of us a bad name. shame on you!
Posted by: brothersgirl | 02/18/2013 at 08:11 PM
Shame on you, TLC. I enjoy watching Cake Boss with my 5 and 7 year old children...and then you advertise this tasteless show! Your programming choices have really gone down hill. I have to turn the channel when this promo and the one about the trailer park comes on. Does showing lots of TRASH really bring ratings?

West Virginia has gotten a bad enough rap through the years without this show coming on. I grew up in Maryland (across the river from Martinsburg, (thank God), I never even knew there were gypsys there or anywhere in that area and I can't believe the "Mountain Folk" put up with their shenanigans, it certainly can't be doing anything to boost Martinsburgs' image, which was never that great to begin with. I got out of that area almost 40 years ago and got to Texas as fast as I could!
Posted by: JPPSOLady | 02/17/2013 at 09:09 PM
What happened to TLC? You went from the Learning channel to the Losers channel. I guess it's all about the ratings!!
Posted by: JAM | 02/17/2013 at 08:58 PM
So I guess if you go around scamming people by offering to blacktop their driveways and either taking the money and run or doing a horrible job and not giving any money back or fixing the issue then you can have a TV show too. State of WV claims they can't find the Stanley's but surprise they are on TV. Great, let's reward people for being thieves. Don't believe me, google Stanley paving.

Well, compare to all fancy-fake-drama-queen "housewives", they are natural and they fight and make up drama because they are like that, and nobody made a scenario and tell them what to do. I like watching this show.

Seriously, did I understand one of the women to recommend using motor oil as a tanning oil?
Um, it would be idiotic to slather aromatic hydrocarbons all over yourself. I realize the gypsy women quit school at 14, but still.
Posted by: AuntieM | 01/23/2013 at 05:43 PM
No real Romani would ever allow to be called a Gypsy. Blatant racism!!!
Posted by: Yvonne | 01/23/2013 at 11:18 AM
I thought TLC used to be " the learning channel" ...hated the last show and def. will NOT be watching this one!!!!!
Posted by: Crystal | 01/22/2013 at 09:10 AM
Just saw the advertisement for this show and had to comment that this looks to be one of, if not, the most pathetic shows that could be shown on TV. TLC previously had such high standards for programming. This is just sad. Now I have to rule out watching TLC too.
