Rah, Rah, Rah! 14 Famous Former Cheerleaders

01/02/2013

Cheerleaders get a bad rap for being silly, non-sports-playing, fluffy, flakey girls. But actually? For whatever reason, some of Hollywood's biggest badasses have also done time with a pair of pom-poms. And really, is it any surprise that some of the world's most famous, most beautiful women were also likely the most popular girls in their high school? As we prep for the next episode of Cheer Perfection (Wednesdays 9|8c!), we thought we'd take a look at some true all stars -- 14 famous ladies who started out in the cheer squad. Some of them may surprise you ...

Eva Longoria

Tiny Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria was likely at the top of the pyramid at Texas A&M University. And Eva also served as a National Cheerleader Association staff instructor.

Fergie (real name: Stacy Ann Ferguson) cheered at Glen A. Wilson High School in Hacienda Heights, California. Thank God she got rid of that perm, eh?

Megan Fox

Couldn't you just imagine Megan Fox as a super popular, super snotty cheerleader? No? Maybe that's just me. Fox claims, that high school was rough for her and "everyone hated me, and I was a total outcast, my friends were always guys, I have a very aggressive personality, and girls didn’t like me for that. I’ve had only one great girlfriend my whole life." Mmkay.

Meryl Streep

Meryl cheered at Bernards High School in Summit, New Jersey. And then she won a bunch of Academy Awards like it's no big deal.

Kelly Ripa

Somehow, in between getting her burgeoning soap opera career going (she started out on All My Children), she found time to cheer at Eastern High School, in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Reese, nicknamed "Little Type A" by her parents, launched her acting career and still found the time to cheer at the all-girls' Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Is it really any surprise that America's Sweetheart did time as a cheerleader? She cheered at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia.

Before she was getting judgy on American Idol, Abdul was a cheerleader at Van Nuys High School in Van Nuys, California. She took her cheering experience all the way to the cheering squad for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Madonna

During her last tour, 50-year-old Madonna donned a majorette costume, sort of reminicent of the one she wore at Rochester Adams High School in Rochester Hill, Michigan. There is nothing ridiculous about that at all.

And don't forget to tune in to Cheer Perfection, Wednesdays, 10/9 c.
