TVN storm chasers are currently heading south through Texas to intercept Hurricane Dolly at landfall tomorrow near the Texas/Mexico Border east of Brownsville. Dolly has strengthened into a minimal hurricane this evening, and is forecast to continue intensifying through landfall tomorrow morning or early afternoon. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting maximum sustained winds of 80 knots at landfall, but this storm could easily strengthen further given the very warm waters of the southern Gulf of Mexico.
An eye has appeared on the last few satellite scans (see left) with explosive storms wrapping around the center - as indicated by the red and brown colors at left. The TVN team of Joel Taylor, Matt Chatelain, Matt Van Every, Daniel Betten, and Curtis McDonald will be streaming live video to TornadoVideos.net, and continuous breaking news updates will be posted on our blog. Be sure to check back for updates as the TVN team attempts to intercept the eye of Hurricane Dolly tomorrow (Wednesday) morning! Shown below is the forecast track for Dolly over the next 24 to 36 hours:

I would love to go on a storm chase with you. My first experience with a tornado was in 1986. My dad dragged me away from our front door as a massive black swirl of howling winds and debris barreled down the street in front of us. He was trying to round up the kids and get us to safety in the storm cellar, but I was so drawn to this amazing display and too young to understand the harm of being so close. Strangely enough, my favorite memories as a child were being huddled with my family in our storm cellar, telling storm stories, and listening to crackling radio broadcasts for the "all clear". I still have dreams about opening the cellar door just as a supernatural tornado rolls by and finally getting to see the forbidden.
My interest in weather was rekindled as an adult during a Master's degree project on controlling the weather. Now I'm challenged to accomplish my childhood dream and go on a storm chase as part of my new project – "101 Things To Do Before You Die". I could accomplish this on my own, but why not do it big? Will you help me accomplish this dream? I don't want fame or tv time; I just want to go on one storm chase. Maybe I can contribute my computer science and aeronautical background to storm research, too.
You can read about my project here: http://liveuponatime.com/101things
Many thanks,
Gina

Hi finally saw my first tornado today it was a f1 in Alberta Canada, It was like a thin lace and it did not last long. I am now all excited about it.
My proposal still stands do you want a professional photographer accompanying you in 2010. Todays events have steeled me to join in this scientific endeavour.
I am now watching the skies and playing safe.
