Astronaut Goofs, Canadian Fireball, Mars Oceans - This Week at Discovery Space
November 24, 2008
This week's look at Discovery Space complete with a super-challenging, um... challenge! Not sure what the prize will be, but watch the video and post your guess in the comments. First one to get it right wins a _________.
Also, my apologies for the crunchy video/sound quality -- my main Webcam is on the fritz, so I dug out my old one dating back to what might be prehistoric times.

It is a model of the Corner reflectors that have been placed on the moon that reflect electromagnetic waves, or as in the Moon Landing Hoax episode on Mythbusters, lasers back towards the source.

BillyBob Spinx: Nope, not a satellite! Great guess though.
Paul from Flint, MI: Disco Ball - looks like one to me, and the Archimedes Heat Ray (loved that MythBusters episode) is off, too. Good try :D
Orion Field: Not Sputnik... another great guess though!
David: A robot turkey, perhaps, but nope...
Dana: WINNER!!! It is the moon. Kids these days... I'll e-mail you shortly.

The object in question is a Martian Dream Catcher. I am sure you have seen the colorful ones done by the Indians. Well this one is in silver because Martians can't process colors like humans do instead they have monochrome vision.

I'm betting its a UFO. Whatever it is, your niece is very creative!

That's no moon -- it's the Death Star!

I honestly would think that it was the moon. The shadows on the silver part look like the craters and there is a kind of glow around the edges of them which could be like the top kind of lip to the crater. As for the piece that hangs off the side I know I often see blurs of light that beam from bright things, especially when I'm not wearing my glasses.

If its not my first guess then it has to be a X-mass ornament? But unless shes planning to take out a ship soon I'll have to say shes a Partier.. in the wrong generation... But i guess theres still time

um I would have to say its looks like a shiny horse...but thats not space related...maybe sputnik?

I bet that round white thing is a new kind of satellite, because those silver (things) look like solar panels, or maybe Radio Panels (it's just a guess) :P
