Playful Polar Bear Cubs Spoil Mom’s Hunting Plans

The best thing about being a youngster is the complete and utter lack of responsibility. Why worry about where dinner comes from when mom and dad seem to always have that taken care of? Better just to play and have fun and let the grown-ups worry about all that food and shelter stuff.

In Frozen Planet, we see this carefree attitude isn’t just limited to human children.

In this adorable scene from the “Spring” episode, a polar bear mom has left her winter den with her cubs to hunt seals on the Arctic pack ice. Stalking seals is a serious business; seals beneath the sea ice can detect the slightest vibration, especially polar bear vibrations.

But these cubs are too busy playing to worry much about all that. Unfortunately, their rambunctious wrestling is akin to an all-points bulletin for any and all seals in the area: “Polar bears are coming! Polar bears are coming!”
