All About Me & Dixie!
Growing up in Atlanta, I showed an early interest in trends,
as evidenced by my brief obsession with neon spandex, slouch socks and
a New Kids on the Block pillow. (Don't bother looking, no photographic
evidence exists.) When I wasn't tracking down the latest
jelly-shoe color, I was acting, dancing and basically being a drama
queen.
When it was time for college, I attended the George Washington University theater program as a Presidential Arts Scholar. While there I also interned at USA Weekend magazine, adding journalism, communications and marketing courses to my workload. I quickly parlayed my internship into a full-fledged position, and it was not long before I put my gift of gab to good use conducting celebrity interviews.
But it was the pace of New York that appealed to me; I was thrilled to work in the city at a publicity agency, designing and managing red carpet movie premieres. Now, I run my own entertainment public relations firm, Spotlight Communications. As a pop culture and lifestyle expert, I have been interviewed by the Today show, Good Morning America, E!, Extra, Good Day New York, Good Day Atlanta, Entrepreneur magazine, CosmoGirl!, Woman's Day, the Miami Herald and the Baltimore Sun.
While putting on the Animal Planet Unleashed bash, a dogwalk fashion show starring celebrities and their "best friends," I sat at the bar sipping "toilet water," the evening's signature cocktail, and knew the time had come to get a dog of my own. (Stopping people on the street to pet their dogs wasn't cutting it.) The nationwide search began; it was my parents who found Miss Dixie. The second they saw those big brown eyes on the diva dachshund, they knew it would "be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
Dixie Gallant
Dixie, a chocolate brown mini dachshund, hails from the heart of Dixie, in Georgia. While she may have been born in a small town, she has always had big-city dreams. A New Yorker now, Dixie retains her Southern charm and hospitality. When she's not entertaining clients as a "pup"licist at Spotlight Communications, Dixie enjoys sashaying her way down Fifth Avenue, making the boy dogs drool, modeling the latest in canine couture, having her picture taken and air-kissing celebrities. On the weekends she can be found catching some rays and listening to "Midnight Train to Georgia" on her Gramercy Park terrace.
