WIDE ANGLE: Vehicle-to-Grid Faces Speed Bumps

February 02, 2009

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could have a two-way charging system when electric vehicles become widely available? That way the cars could store some power and serve as a backup electricity source in a pinch.

Fortunately, vehicle to grid or V2G, is in the works. Unfortunately, it faces myriad challenges before it becomes a national reality. I recently spoke with Sandy Butterfield and Terry Penney of the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, Colorado, to find out more about those speed bumps. Check out the video above to see what I learned.

Terry and Sandy are extremely smart guys--so smart that they might be irritated that I just have clips of them and not the whole team of people tackling V2G. Have no fear guys: you gave me enough ideas for several videos.
