How Animal Mummies Were Made
October 19, 2009
While Swiss researchers have succeeded in mummifying a body part using the salty recipe of the ancient Egyptians, in this Heritage Key video, Salima Ikram, professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo and a leading expert on animal mummies, offers a fascinating insight into animal mummification.

This delightful account recalls a visit behind the scenes in the museum at the University of California at Berkeley, where we observed mummified snakes -- resembling neatly wrapped sticks -- and a good many mummified cats. The cats had to be kept under lock and key because they were forever being stolen! Not by local raptors wanting a snack, either.
