Archaeology's Top 10 Discoveries
December 29, 2008
It’s that time of the year again. Looking back at the year that almost was, Archaeology magazine has named the 10 most important archaeological discoveries of 2008.
According to the magazine, 2008 was the year of the imperial Roman marble heads, the year of the earliest shoes, the year of the oldest oil paintings, and the year of the origin of whaling.
It was also the year of Maya blue, the year of the Wari masked mummy, the year of the first European, the year of the Kuttamuwa funerary stele and the year of the Portuguese Indiaman.
Or perhaps 2008 was just the Year of the Earliest North American Coprolites, which is the scientific name for ancient poop.
