Just for the sake of pure research, bring up from NATIONAL REVIEW July 20, 1973, the article about the Shroud of Turin written by yours truly. Compare the facts of dimensionalizations described with what has been bandied about for so many years. One of the problems with all the popular "research" is the frequently intermixing of the photo positive-negative image and the photo negative-positive image. The misunderstanding of this has led to many erroneous conclusions.
"...A truly scientific approach to the Shroud of Turin indicates that THE primary primary question is whether this cloth even contained a human body. ADvocates of authenticity have expressed various opinions; they have never demonstrated unequivocally , beyond a shadow of a doubt, that a body was ever in this cloth. Nor have adversaries of the Shroud ever demonstrated beyond a shadow that this cloth never contained a human body. It is only after establishing unassailable proof that the cloth did contain a body can there be logical focus on the question of the identity of the body.
Independent objective evaluations have shown that errors of interpretatin have arisen because of (1) a lack of standardization of Shroud/photo-positive viewing; (2) poor understanding, if any, of the folowing: (a) how the Shroud had been turned inside out, with(b) the ensuing convex-concave reversals, as well as (c) the trnasient characteristic, the so-called mirror image of the frontal portion. ..." Etc. (some of this from essay published in The Holy Shroud Guild Newsletter, July 14, 1995) Thank you.
