7 Weirdest Sports Injuries

December 18, 2008

By Heather Quinlan

We visited Nerd Nite at Dumbo - an event advertised as "Discovery Channel with beer."  And there was much beer - as well as some great presentations.  First up was Nerd Nite frontman Matt Wasowski, whose talk on sports was completely out of left field.  He explained that there are gaming nerds and coding nerds but also sports nerds who dig on the trill of victory, but most especially, the agony of defeat. Therefore - witness the 7 Greatest Sports Injuries, which includes a deadly fight with a phone book.

4,185.11 ft. and climbing

December 06, 2008

After many false starts I began my training for the Keybank Vermont City Marathon which takes place on May 24,2009. The temp. was 28 degrees so I bundled up in my fabulous new blue pants and bright yellow coat, which I spent a lot of money on to spur me on to stick to my 6th month training schedule. It's not pretty as the weeks go on and the mileage builds up.

I'm not great at judging distance. I only know I'm sort of slow. When I got back from my  run, I made myself a cup of Earl Gray Tea and decided to start keep maps of my route. I'm having a few issues with Google maps, which I've only used to get directions. Figuring out how to draw the lines was not too taxing. Figuring out my total distance is where I'm stuck. Sometimes it measures in mileage, sometimes in feet and sometimes not at all. So I know I ran more than 4,185.11 ft but how much more is the mystery.
