With all the drama that took place this season in the Kalahari, my “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” essay could easily turn into a novel. It’s hard to believe just a month or two ago, Rocket Dog’s leadership skills were questionable at best, not to mention the likelihood of the Whiskers remaining a powerhouse on the manor. Then it seemed like we were gearing up for one pup shower after another as the meerkat ladies raced to see who could give birth first to stake their claim as dominant female. The manor men had their hands full as well, with Wilson’s endless roving, Mitch’s dedication to protecting the Whiskers, Zorro’s aggressive power play within the Commandos and surprising demise, and even elder Zaphod discovering a new place to call home.
There were countless memories created in the burrow this season and I’ve had a blast giving everyone the lowdown each week – but now’s your chance to share your top highlights! Who was your favorite new character? What was the most shocking moment, or the most heartbreaking? Comments on all of the blog entries will close a week from today so speak now or forever hold your peace!
Meet Sarah Grace
I would love to know what happened to Rocket Dog after seeing the last episode today (took me awhile to catch up on the series). I always love seeing new pups, because they are so tiny and cute. I enjoyed how this season followed 3 groups, and we got to see different leadership from the dominant females. I was so happy whenever Mitch was mentioned, as well as Axel! I still wonder what happened to Columbus.
Thanks for making such a great show. I know there are researchers there, but it's interesting for me to catch a glimpse of what the researchers see.

Since I can't post images,Vansylsrus is located 200 miles wwwws of Johannesburg. The study area is in the uproot of South Africa between Namibia & Botswana,100 miles south of the border.

Can anyone tell me specifically, where Meerkat Manor is located? I'm looking for more detailed data: more than the Kalahari, in South Africa's northern cape. Thanks all!!!

Sophie and Spud are littermates. There was a third littermate, but she died when Youssarian instigated a borro move while babysitting. Jogu is actually Tosca's son.

PLEASE! bring back Sean Astin as narrator.

thanks jeff but, i have another question about sophie, is spud her only surviving littermate, because i thought it was spud and jogou.

In response to sophie, the Sophie from seasons 1-3 was Mozart's daughter and Sophie's real name was Tina Sparkle. Tina Sparkle has left the study area so her fate is uncertain. However, the Sophie from this season is actually Ella who is Flower's daughter and also the current dominant female of the Whiskers. Don't you hate it when MM uses other meerkats to play a particular meerkat? I think it's misleading.

lets remember some important meerkats that were lost:
Flower,Mozart,Tosca,Carlos,Shakespeare,Kinkajou, and others who were lostR.I.P. you rulers of the kalahari!!!:(

I absolutely loved everything about this Season, it reminded me of Season 1 and made me realize just how much I look forward to Friday nights in the Kalahari.
Like others have written it is so difficult to pick just one favorite so I have multiple from this season.
Let's start with Rocket Dog, she really had her work cut out for her and though she had a rocky start she did prove she's her mothers daughter. May she run forever free and happy with her pups over the Rainbow Bridge.
Then we have good ole Zaphod, I never tire of seeing him and all the rovers in town sure aged him a bit. But he really looked happy just hanging out at the burrow with his grandpups. May he be blessed with good health and alot more years on the manor.
Maybelline also is tough like her momma and will take her group far as the DF. I also love that she allows Zaphod to stay in the group when she could easily have a new DM come in and take over, you can tell she's a daddy's girl.
Then we have Sophie/Ella, gracious little lady. She reminded me so much of Mozart always the caring one especially when she didn't take advantage of the fact that R.D. was suffering from the snake bite. She'll make a good DF for the Whiskers, she's tough like her momma Flower with a bit of selflessness like her auntie Mozart.
Then the pups, just love them pups especially Juno in the burrow trying to play with his young cousins, talk about a kodak moment. Axle while no longer a pup is turning into a valued member of the family so reminiscent of Mitch when he learned from Shakespeare.
Of course can't forget Nikta, she really had her paws full with all the Whisker testerone being thrown around. I really enjoyed seeing a different side to the Commandos other than what was shown in previous seasons. Afterall she's no different than any of the DF's out there, doing what she has to in order to keep her family together and to give her newborns the best opportunity at life.
The most shocking and heartbreaking thing for me to watch was the fight at the Commandos between Miles and Baker and of course the horrible snake bite that Rocket Dog received. I still can't bring myself to watch that episode over again though I've rewatched every single other episode many times.
What breaks my heart even more is knowing that Rocket Dog was able to survive this bite only to be killed a month later by a car.
I truly hope that there will be a Season 5, I can't imagine not knowing what is going on with all the meerkats across the Kalahari but especially those that we have come to love so dearly.
Please Sarah if you can let us know if there will be a Season 5.

dear sarah
I am 10 years old and I do think that meerkats are amazing animals, and would love to thank you for this chance to express my emotions during the third and fourth season of Meerkat Manor. I would also hope to be able to speak about and learn more when I am older. I do belive that mozart was my favorite, but since she passed away I reluctuntly began to like flower. But after she was gone ,I thought there was no hope left, so in grieving I didnt watch the first few episodes of season four. It was on accident I turned to the channel , and saw a glimmer of light .........rocket dog! And all at once I stopped grieving and watched it. As I grew closer to understanding the next generation, getting to know mich, sophie, rocket dog, young axle, wilson, maybaline, zaphod, zoro, nikita, miles, phelip, juno, nugget, and beakor.and as I started to understand that the same way I lost mozart, I gained flower, and unto her was rocket dog, and I craked it. The love of one is reborn in another so after a while it was peacefull on the manor and the wiskers were flourishing to twenty,................................but then it happend on the darkest day.showing the same courage as flower to save a pup she was struck on the head. As I felt the tears streaming down my face, and sadfully watched the rest,untill..........................................................I saw the ending she had survived the harmfull bite
proving she was flowers daugter after all. As tears of saddness turnd to joy I can't wait untill season 5.
I hope you enjoyed my entry , and if you dont, you do not truly understand the life events of the kalahari dessert.
Looking foward to season 5.

Thanks for this opportunity. It was a great ending to a great series with Juno jumping on the recovering RD's head. I beleive I saw RD smile with love and satisfaction. And, Seacrest's little adventure was memorable.
The comparison's between the three groups was very educational. Meerkats vary in personality traits as humans. Wasn't Sophie Mozart's pup? She definitely is cut from her mother's apron. Although the show had some changes (new narrator and more cutsie writing as opposed to the previous documentary style) after one adjusted it was still a great show, in many ways better. To pick a favorite is hard I love them all.
I read a lot of blogs and wonder if anyone realizes how cutting edge the Meerkat Manor production really is. I think it is one of the best pieces of production work out there.
Please keep up the good work and don't let it stop. Thanks.

Hey Sarah,
My favorite 'new' character is Sophie, who is likely played by one of Flower's daughters named Ella...She is a lovely meerkat and is well loved by all in her family. I loved how Rocket Dog (RIP) took her back in time to deliver her pups in the main burrow, and then allowed her to stay with and raise them...I wonder if Rocket Dog knew that her days were numbered?
Juno is my other favorite new character. I love love loved how Rocket Dog 'adopted' him after his mommy Rita (Amira?) rejected him...That was just precious, and who stayed with Rocket Dog after she'd been bitten? Why it was Juno and a couple young adults...I was so impressed by the affection shown toward Rocket Dog and Sophie. What a great way to end the season!!
So, when is Season 5 set to begin? Has Animal Planet begun filming?? Have they decided on a narrator, will they ask Ms. Channing to return??? So many questions, such little meerkats...haha!!
Thank You for this opportunity to speak my piece.
Peace Love & Meerkats

I loved Sophie! I think she really proved she has what it takes to become top female and the future leader of the Whiskers.
I was literally almost in tears at the thought of Rocket Dog having the same demise as her mother Flower. But once again she proved us she is one tough cookie!
I cannot wait for the new season! =)
