OPEN THREAD: DIVIDED WE FALL

Tonight’s episode certainly was a devastating reminder about the dangers that can pop up at any moment on the Manor, even during a seemingly innocent breakfast outing. Babysitters Sophie and Simon thought they were just showing the new Whisker pups around town, but their impromptu field trip to the Kalahari IHOP proved to be a deadly decision. And in her attempt to protect her pups, Rocket Dog unfortunately ended up chasing enemies the Aztecs right into their path, with brave Simon paying the ultimate price. I've watched MM since first episode but this season has been a disappointment and I find myself losing interest. Ms Channing is pretty bad as a narrator, she just reads, whereas the previous narrator Mr Astin told a story that drew the veiwer in.

Thats my take on it.

Great Great episode. Thank you AP for a wonderful 2 part story in one. Brilliant! This season is one of the best ever. I love the scenery, the storylines and to see the pups last week was a special treat. It is so much better than seeing deaths in every episode. Last year there were 8 episodes with deaths. I commend AP for all of their hard work and to all of the researchers for their never ending time that they spend to give us just a glimpse into the precious little lives of Meerkats. Because of them I have had the blessed opportunity to witness all of what happens in these little lives. To have known Flower and all that she was is such a gift. I miss her so much but love to see her legacy live on in her children and all of the rest who passed last season, we love all of you and miss you very much. I hope that MM goes on forever. One day I hope to visit the Kalahari and to walk and talk with these reseachers and tell them how I feel. I really love the dialog this season and the way it is written. It is brilliant! Keep it going AP and WE LOVE OUR MM!!!!!!

First I want to thank AP for giving us MM. I always loved the Kats and have watched from day 1.I hope it goes on forever. One of the big problems are after the upset of season 3, Many viewers were not ready for such drastic changes made this year. I have been watching so far. I love the Kats. But am upset every time I watch an episode. I wish Sean could come back. I always liked SC, but not as the narrator. The episodes and photography are great. But I have a hard time watching and enjoying MM. Please help us. I love this program and want it to go on forever.

I loved seeing the pups and the play fighting. Even though I knew the outcome I still enjoyed it a lot.

Keep up the good work. I love seeing all the other groups as well! Shows us a little more about the meerkats in the study area.

Oh, also just love the behind the scenes clips and interviews you are showing this season. Keep them coming!

I really enjoyed this episode and love watching those pups be pups. It is hard to watch a member of those families die, of course I cried but it is just so amazing to see such dedication in raising the next generation.
Stockard Channing has helped me get back into the show, not that Sean Astin was bad but I just think she adds a bit more sophistication and had really good timing on when emphasis is truly needed.

I thought the show was amazing. The concept of the 2 points of view was very innovative, tho' it did preclude the presentation of another story line. Nugget and Beaker are just adorable. Poor Sophie getting chomped by a humgry pup! My kitten does that to me to signal mealtime, lol. Poor brave, handsome Simon - the poster boy for the hazards of babysitting.

Hard to believe the season is past the half-way mark. And even harder to believe that after this only one more season! Not nearly enough!

Please, please, can we have many more seasons? How about negotiating for seasons 6 thru 10?

I have watched the show since the first episode. I fell in love with these brave little creatures.
While I understand this is a scientific study, I still get very emotional when one of them dies.
I actually mourned for Flower. She was such a fearless leader and a devoted mother. We try
to attribute human terms to these meerkats, but Flower seemed to have a type of wisdom or
instinct that served to make her a great leader. I love Stockard Channing as the narrator;
she has a beautiful voice and can quote Shakespeare or speak of love so beautifully. Sean Astin was great as well, they are just different types. In last night's episode I was so afraid that the pups would be killed; what an ending. Dear brave Simon gave his life for the next generation. that seems to happen often at the Manor.

Stockard Channing does not have a 'HORRIBLE VOICE'. Yes, she may not be the best, but she is by no means the worst narrator. Just look at Lemur Kingdom! That narrator is attrocious! The difference between Stockard and LK's narrator is like night and day. But I do agree, they must bring Sean back.

Actually, Zaphod Martin, you got it right...I just don't have the pund symbol on my keyboard. =P

Eric, a great many fans agree with you. At least Stockard Channing's narration has lost the sometimes mocking above-it-all tone of the first few episodes, but to my mind it still lacks the warmth of Sean Astin's voice.

Still, I think this was the best episode so far this season, with humor, peril, and a bittersweet ending.

I am sorry, but I agree w/eric. Last year, I was so addicted! Way more than a 37 yr old should have been! But this yr, I've tried to watch it several times and I just can't stay focused. I love Stockard Channing, but the gentleman last yr just gave Meerkats more personality. I cried, laughed, got that little warm feeling in my heart and it was alot of fun being excited to see the next episode.

I love the Meerkat's story. I have watched since I stumbled on the kats. I stay up on Friday to see eaach episode--only it comes on so late--11:30 to 12:30. They are so cute, and so loyal. I hope you never run out of material for the program. Betty L. Rector

WTF, I had not seen an episode this season, and was so excited to see it on the tv in front of me, I went to turn up the volume, cause it was on mute, and heard this HORRIBLE VOICE THAT WAS NOT SEAN ASTIN. I didn' even care anymore, how could this have happened, the show has never been more popular than it was last year and u change the narrator, un@@@$%!! believable, and I hear budweiser just sold to a European Company, the world is ending HELP!!. If you can't help the world at least bring back Sean. I can't even watch it, please make things right and sell season 4 on DVD with Sean Remastered.

I cried when Simon died, I always cry when a meerkat dies. It is just so sad to see a meerkat them lose his/her life like that although many would say it's nature.

I am so glad that the pups were safe. I had the impression that the Whiskers weren't gonna look for the pups and the babysitters when they headed out that morning. It was good that Sophie came to lead them to the pups. The storm was a good thing too, driving out the Aztecs before they could get to the pups. Although I wonder if Zaphod would recognize his own relatives now that he has spent such a long time with the Aztecs.

Can't wait for the next episode! Finally, some news on the Aztecs and the Commandoes!

Oh, and how cute/handsome (lol) are Nugget and Beaker? I know they all look alike :D, but I've always thought that Rocket Dog was a gorgeous meerkat, especially in the intro of each episode, she just looked different from all the others.

Oh, no.... I loved Simon from the first moment I met him... I was cheering for him throughout the entire episode...how sad that he came to his end like this. What an amazing little 'kat he was, even if we only got to get to know him for one episode...

I have also been watching MM from the beginning. the meerkats are just so amazing and courageous, and when one dies I'm just shocked and sad... I can't help but shed a tear.

I found it interesting how they told the story form the pups' point of view, then Rocket Dog's. I tohught that was an excellent way to tell the story.

Very good episode...but an extremely heart-wrenching episode at the same time...

Yeah i agree this episode was great but sad but how did simon die becuz of the snake or because of the aztecks it was so sad that i cryed R .I.P SIMOM but they were family why didnt they stop and thank god the pups are alright
