That is rather ODD...

These observations are things I have learned from our Oddities genre of programming:
  1. One can identify if a piece of "freak" taxidermy is real by feeling for seam lines
  2. It's not surprising for people into taxidermy & articulating to be vegetarians
  3. A Taphophile is someone who is passionate about cemeteries (e.g. gravestones)
Do you know what else is odd and very cool? The cast of Oddities and Oddities San Francisco are going to meet in person – true story! Here are some pictures of when the Executive Producer (Josh Berkley) and I went to Obscura and met everyone.

Danger By Design Premiere: How Did We Get that Amazing Aerial Footage?

The following post was written by SCIENCE Executive Producer Josh Berkeley about his experience producing the new series Danger By Design, Mondays at 9PM e/p.

Nik Wallenda and his father Terry contemplate an upcoming stunt atop the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. Click for more photos from SCIENCE!The money shots that almost didn't happen. But they did in the end, and they are amazing! You’ll have to decide for yourself during tonight's premiere of Danger By Design at 8PM e/p! You'll see some of the most amazing aerial footage during Nik Wallenda's attempt to walk between the towers of Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

In order to cover the walk we planned for 8 camera's but did not include aerials. The thinking at the time was the helicopter's rotor wash and noise would be too distracting to Nik as he attempted his walk. It was a safety issue. We scouted the location, chose the camera positions and then filmed Nik and his team rigging the wire. But then, just 48 hours before his scheduled walk Nik said that he wouldn't be disturbed by the noise of the helicopter so if we wanted to get those shots it would be OK with him. As you'll see in the show tonight, the aerial perspective is amazing and you really see how long and high this walk is. With Nik's blessing we had to try and get the shots. We called a trusted pilot based in Miami who miraculously could be in the Bahamas the next day.

We were set. Or so we thought...

The day of the walk, tropical storms threatened to shut down the event and ground the helicopter. A small window of time opened up and Nik began his amazing talk between the towers. With the use of a Wescam HD rig, we we're able to stay a safe distance from Nik while he walked and pull of the signature shots for the show and ultimately the series.

Now that you’ve got the real story behind the show, don’t miss tonight’s premiere of Danger By Design to see how it all finally came together.

Enjoy!
