The Path to Sci Fi Masters
By: Dexter Cole
Coming up with a series title is never an easy process. We recently struggled with a new title for an upcoming series that we acquired which will debut on Science, Sunday, February 12th at 10pm.
The series originally aired in 2007 on ABC under the title, Masters of Science Fiction. We made the decision to change the title to avoid the potential for confusion with another series that we currently air. No problem, right?
Well, actually, it was. You see, we wanted to use the name of the series’ narrator in the title because he is a so highly regarded in the field of science. This required us to involve our Legal team who did a phenomenal job of obtaining his permission. At the same time, we had to nail the new title and then obtain a legal clearance. Well, we ultimately succeeded...or did we?
You be the judge. The final title is “Stephen Hawking’s Sci Fi Masters”. Work for you?
Check it out February 12th at 10pm. If you’re a science fiction fan, I promise, you will not be disappointed!

Can't believe no one has told you, but GREAT show and of course Stephen Hawking's name in a title works.
In fact there's a world of ideas from the 'giants' to keep all of us asking for more from you. Like ... three words ... "Rendezvous With Rama". Could we build one? Why would we build one? What would power it? Who would we put on it? Where would we send it? What about the ones left behind? What do we do when we get there? What if someone finds us before we get there? Would we want to get off once we get there?
Whoa …just had a bad flashback of “Space 1999”. Na, thinking you could bring in lots of different fields to collaborate on this. Even Stephen would have a field day on “Where would we send it?”. He’d have us in a black hole on day 10 and that would kill the series, or cut the 1 hour show down to 10 minutes.
Ok, have to go and fight with the people that tell me I watch too much television - just interesting that when I mention Shoemaker-Levy they want to know if they can get 20% off on his website - so much for the book readers.
Sill watching Sci Fi Masters and want wanting more. Thanks.

I love the Science Channel. However, things are happening so fast, much of what is shown is out of date. I would like to see a live nightly news show devoted to science. Recent developments which could be explored include the Higgs Boson, whether Voyager has left the solar system, the fact that the Universe is 80 million years older than originally thought, an update on the Mars explorers, etc. Anyone with any interest at all in these subjects will watch this program every night. A good time would be 7-8 PM.
