Burning Sea Turtles

06/30/2010

Oil Spill Sea Turtle Baby sea turtles, along with dozens of species of small fish, shrimp, crabs and other wildlife, naturally find shelter in open water in flotillas of sargassum seaweed.  Well, not only is the dispersed oil in the Gulf clinging to the sargassum, the wildlife doesn't seem to perceive that this stuff is toxic and are mistaking the slick for natural shelter.

As BP collects and burns this oil on the surface, these creatures, already suffering the devastating effects of the toxic oil and dispersant mixture, are apparently being burned alive.  Watch this video to learn more.

Here, we will share news and first-hand accounts from our friends who are witnessing the devastation and recovery efforts in the Gulf. Comment freely, if you see something that makes you want to ROAR.
