Pitchmen Update
08/31/2010
This just in: Pitchmen will not be airing at 9 PM on Thursday night this week, despite what you may have seen in the TV listings or the Discovery Insider newsletter. It was temporarily pulled from the schedule, but the remaining premiere episodes of the new season will be rescheduled for later this year. I'll post another update as soon as I find out when it will be back.

Bring Pitchmen back. It was a great show that has an audience. It was not given enough time to succeed. It was a unique show that would have a loyal audience. It was a mistake to pull the show.

how can you get advice even if the show is not back?

Please bring Pitchmen show back and cancel a few cooking shows etc. How do I get in touch with Anthony or anyone from the cast.
Posted by: Joe Norrell | 02/23/2011 at 09:28 AM
It figures, anything that encourages a brain to work vs. 'dirty jobs' or end of the world scenarios, gets cancelled. Way to go discovery. I'm so glad you're not living up to your name and letting millions of smart ingenious individuals continue UNDISCOVERED.

Bring the show back or come up with a new show for inventors. Good ideas is what made America great.

I have been dying for pitchmen 2 to resume. Didn't know why it was yanked to begin with, but now im just asking for answers as to what may become of pitchmen. Please update the info.

I love that show. I am really upset it is not going to be on. Come on...reconsider!

Bring back Pitchmen! It is a great program that the entire family can enjoy. My wife, my kids and I still love the show, even though we miss Billy. It's a great, entertaining way, to teach my kids about the entrepreneurship. Please bring it back now!
Posted by: Bob | 10/15/2010 at 01:59 PM
I was a very big fan on pitchmen and my wife and I watched it every night. After NBC cancelled Shark Tank, Pitchmen stood alone with a wide reaching audience as an inspirational, educational, and overall entertaining show.
if you already have episodes recorded, why not offer them on iTunes or put them up on the website for free and rake in a few extra ad revenue dollars for the quarter?
Posted by: Jeff S. | 10/15/2010 at 12:04 AM
Bring back Pitchmen, great show! Thought it would be stale without Billy, but I really enjoyed the first two episodes of season two. Hopefully we see it again soon...

We need Pitchmen back!
Posted by: Jim | 09/27/2010 at 05:18 PM
How are you just going to pull it off after 2 weeks into the new season??? I agree, "way to treat your viewers"! Especially with no explanation, I had to search on my computer for me to figure it out! Plus, the next episode was going to feature Dr. Drew! WTF?!?!?
Posted by: Adam | 09/23/2010 at 03:14 PM
Please bring Pitchmen back on the air. I agree with other posters that this is just the type of show we need in this economy. It is inspiring, funny and just all around entertaining. I really think that any poor ratings are due to the fact that there were literally no advertising dollars spent on this show. How are we supposed to even know when it is on. To not have any information as to why it was pulled and to leave fans hanging is not the right thing to do. I spent about 30 minutes searching my DVR schedule and looking online to find out what happened to the show and got nothing until I find this tiny blog post with no real explanations. Not a good way to treat your viewers.
Posted by: Scott | 09/22/2010 at 10:50 PM
I never write into these types of things but I feel compelled to this time in the hopes that Discovery execs will read it. As a businessman, handyman around the house, and what I like to call Inventor dabbler, I enjoyed the Pitchmen series as did many of my friends and collogues. To watch as these brave soles risk everything they have on their ideas is just plane inspiring and nothing less heroic in the hopes to achieve the American dream! First I was surprised that Discovery didn’t put much in the way of promotion behind the second series. Then to take it off the air with no explanation is just unprofessional. My biggest problem is that there has been no official statement made by Discovery, just some sketchy insider info here on this page and with no follow up to date. Please let your loyal viewers know what is going on with this Pitchmen series. It was good to have a show back on the air that can motivate kids and adults alike instead of so much sadness and violence as in other programming. Bring back Pitchmen and make us believe again!

Sully was Great!!! Please bring Pitchmen back. It is a great show for everyone in the family. Nice stories helping ordinary people making their dreams come true.
Posted by: Carol | 09/21/2010 at 10:58 PM
Please bring Pitchmen back!!!!!!! It is one of the few REAL "reality" shows and actually worth watching!
Posted by: Kayla | 09/19/2010 at 10:05 PM
Please bring the show back on the air, this is seriously a joke, the show has been much anticipated!
Posted by: Bradley Clarke | 09/19/2010 at 01:45 AM
Uh, yeah, this is a very questionable decision. I'm going through my DVR list like I do every week or so, updating it and noticed no new episodes were there for Pitchmen. I don't think I've ever seen that happen where a show is picked up for a second season and then just cancelled mid-season for no reason. Everyone keeps saying this show won't be the same without Billy Mayes but I found it every bit as interesting as last year's episodes. You're forgetting what the basic theme of the show is about. It's not a place where Billy Mayes can find personal fame. It's a show about invention and making dreams come true. When one person who does that well passes on or retires, the world doesn't stop. The next person picks up the torch and the world keeps moving. It's how us humans have been doing since the stone age. In addition, I've been a fam of Discovery since way back before Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters, American Chopper and all the survival shows basically ruined the programming, when Discovery was just nature shows about earth, oceans, wildlife, etc. and Pitchmen was at least a show about ideas and the creativity of the human spirit. It is a mistake to cancel it. ...but if you insist on canceling it, also cancel Deadliest Catch now that Phil Harris died and cancel all the survival shows and go back to shows like Earth and traditional nature shows ...oh, wait. That's right. Now that you've discovered that it's much cheaper to make reality types of shows and you can make more money that way, all the sudden nature shows that made your network what it is won't make you the kinds of profits you now enjoy. Sell-outs. Since when was it all about the profits? You're supposed to be the network that's better than that, that cares more about quality programming than profits. Well, I'm just disappointed in you.

Please Discovery, get this show back on the air. Anthony Sullivan is as good a spokesperson for the "American Dream" as anyone currently on the air. Innovation for the small guy/girl is a vanishing dream, but it's one of the things that made this country the land of opportunity. Too often today TV is ruled by a pessimistic kind of delusion that says hard work, creativity, marketing savvy and old fashioned inventiveness is the domain of the huge corporation, so let's just entertain and pacify. Come on, Discovery. Take a bold step forward. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Let's accept the fact that Billy's gone on to better things, and move ahead with Anthony. It' time to make a difference.
Posted by: ideaman3 | 09/18/2010 at 05:29 PM
I am so disappointed. One of the best shows on Discovery. I DVR every episode! Why must we wait to see what is already in the can waiting to be seen??????
Posted by: Roxie | 09/16/2010 at 08:45 PM
What is up with taking pitchmen off, you play all of these stupid survival shows, and you take away the great ones, Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, and now Pitchmen. Those shows were the only ones I enjoyed watching. I know Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters will be back whenever you guys decide to start playing them again, but taking Pitchmen away? What a bad decision.
Posted by: Brandon | 09/16/2010 at 06:23 PM
This is and was the perfect show for this economy. People are encouraged and shown the process to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. Please, "Discover" your mistake.........

How could you pull Pitchmen?? Pitchmen is an AMAZING show!!
Posted by: Jordan | 09/15/2010 at 09:33 PM
Please bring Pitchmen back! It's a great show! I thought Anthony Sullivan was doing a fantastic job. One of the only shows I looked forward to. Very disappointing Discovery!!!
Posted by: Jason | 09/13/2010 at 06:59 PM
I am FURIOUS over Discovery pulling Pitchmen without notice ! I loved that show, it was a great show about the American Dream, entrepreneurship and everything that makes this country great. The execs at Discovery who made this decision are BUFFOONS !, the rest of your programming is becoming PURE GARBAGE !, depressing prison shows and moronic "ghost" shows, etc., Where is SCIENCE and "DISCOVERY" anymore on the Discovery channel ?
Posted by: MDFaraone | 09/13/2010 at 04:35 PM
Bring it back.... Very inspiring show!!!
Posted by: Lsl | 09/13/2010 at 06:36 AM
To Jim Torres:
Okay, this is not the same show without my dear friend Billy. You need to get your facts straight. Sully was never a "Boardwalk knife peddler!" He's paid his dues from being a young mop salesman on the streets of London to what he has become today!
Sully has worked for every dollar that he has ever made!!! You may be critical of Sully, but you have no idea what Billy and Sully have gone through to get to where they are today!
No, the show could not be the same as last season due to the passing of Billy. His death hit us all like a rock!!! The effect on Sullivan Productions was devastating.
I do not work for Sullivan... we'll leave it at that due to contracts.
Bottom line... want to slam the show, at least educate yourself about the people you are speaking about! Knife salesman in Jersey just proves you really don't know anything about Sully!!!
Posted by: not listed | 09/12/2010 at 11:29 PM
Yah, since all 25 of you complained they should bring it back! The show is missing its star unfortunately and it will not be the same. The show is too big for anthony sullivan, he's uncomfortable and rather boring. What makes him the authority on good products...he is a boardwalk knife peddler/producer not an experienced marketing firm or product developer. Besides, the 2 episides that did air seemed more like super dave osbourne than pitchmen,it wont be back...your all dreaming.
Posted by: jim torres | 09/12/2010 at 09:57 PM
I need my PITCHMEN! that show is one of the few highlights of my week!!!! please bring it back! soon!
Posted by: Axel | 09/11/2010 at 11:21 PM
Not a good choice to remove... hopefully not cancelled !?
Posted by: Joe | 09/10/2010 at 07:00 PM
Why, why, why? This show is great! It inspires anybody with an idea and a dream. It is all about Discovery! Seems like a perfect fit for this network, I don't get it. Please bring this show back asap!
Posted by: Neil | 09/10/2010 at 01:45 AM
WOW, WHY cancel??? I love the show, BRING IT BACK...PLEASE
Posted by: Jeff | 09/09/2010 at 11:22 PM
Pitchmen was the only show on TV that I looked forward to on Thursday nights! Even though Billy is no longer on the show, I thought Sully was doing a great job and the show is still extremely entertaining. Bring it back soon!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Miki | 09/09/2010 at 09:32 PM
Will this at least be available online to watch or FIOS On-Demand? I'd love to see the episodes you had left. Maybe posting it the same time as Project Runway interfered?
Posted by: Katie | 09/09/2010 at 08:50 PM
I hope Discovery reads these comments. Pitchmen is a great show. You had lots of people hooked on it. I wanted to see what happened to Shavemate and the Fridgelocker. I saw Billy Mays on the ad so I knew he would have been on the show, do I know a lot of people were going to tune in because of that! How could you pull the show after you advertised that epoisode? Makes no sense at all. Put Pitchmen back on, please! It is a great show!
Posted by: Tom | 09/09/2010 at 06:50 PM
I can't believe this show was pulled - it was one of my favorite shows. I was looking forward to watching new episodes, so this is very annoying and disappointing! Please bring it back ASAP!
Posted by: Mike D | 09/09/2010 at 06:49 PM
Wow... Sure was let down that the show is pulled.
As an online marketer I really enjoyed the show and felt it offered invaluable information to the viewers and insight into a billion dollar industry.
I would like to deeply request that you would add the show back to your schedule.
Posted by: Randall Kowalenko | 09/09/2010 at 05:21 PM
I am very disappointed that Pitchmen has been pulled from the schedule! It is a great show with inspiring personal stories. I guess the people don't want uplifting shows on TV anymore, first it was Tony Robbin's show on NBC and now Pitchmen.
It's too bad that Discovery didn't do more to promote the show and give it a longer run before they pulled it.
Posted by: Mike | 09/09/2010 at 03:25 PM
I did not know it was on again because you did not advertise! I found out by accident 2 episodes in. I am devoted fan and watched every episode last year. Because of what happened to Billy I, as well as a lot of other fans, thought the show was over. This was not a fair test and I would question your ratings. It is akin to using midnight traffic to determine required maximum freeway capacity. I know you have had a rough last few weeks but at least let common sense prevail.
Please at least make the full season 2 DVDs available for purchase.
Posted by: Bman | 09/09/2010 at 01:25 PM
Why did it get pulled off the schedule for repeats of mythbusters. I have been waiting for so long to see it and the it gets pulled without even getting its fair shake. Please tell me there is a great reason for this.....when would we expect it to come back. doesn't sound cancelled just rescheduled, but why?
Posted by: Brandon | 09/09/2010 at 11:45 AM
Please at least show the rest of the episodes. I have waited all summer to watch Pitchmen again and we only get two episodes when you have at least five. Why show another repeat of Mythbusters when you could show a new episode of Pitchmen?
Posted by: Brian | 09/09/2010 at 11:01 AM
Please hurry up and bring "Pitchmen" back asap! I loved the first season and I was already starting to really enjoy the second season.
Posted by: James | 09/09/2010 at 04:51 AM
I've been waiting for this show since LAST SEPTEMBER when Billy III said that they were filming season 2! So seriously, why not just air the rest of the season?!?!
Posted by: Michele | 09/09/2010 at 01:15 AM
Why did you take this show off? I just got season 1 for my birthday and I was so excited for season 2! I WANT TO KNOW HOW THE SHAVEMATE DOES! Please at least air the rest of the season before you just take to show off the air without any warning!
Posted by: Kristen | 09/09/2010 at 12:59 AM
Why are you pulling such a great show? I don't wanna watch some Prison BS, I want Pitchmen!
Posted by: Fifa Mia | 09/08/2010 at 11:31 PM
Bring it back!!!!
I can't believe you all cut PitchMen out.
Right now, with the economy down and the American public needing inspiration, why would you cancel this show?
I loved this show. It inspired me to continue down the path of entrepreneurship.
Posted by: John Paul | 09/08/2010 at 02:11 PM
i'm very upset that PitchMen hasn't been on. I hope we will be able to see the episodes that we missed
Posted by: Nikole | 09/07/2010 at 10:53 PM
It looks like I am not the only one extremely disappointed with Discovery's decision to take Pitchmen off the air! I am so glad that all the devoted fans of the show are making their voices heard.
This show is everything that's right with capitalism, entrepreneurship, and the American dream. To see that the show has been pulled for a County Jail show spotlighting the worst of our society would be ironic if it weren't so disgusting.
Discovery, do the right thing and put Pitchmen back on the air ASAP! The people have spoken and the verdict is unanimous...we need Pitchmen back pronto! The ball is in your court Discovery, make the right decision!
Posted by: Damon | 09/07/2010 at 10:43 PM
Really....pulled for another Jail program. Really????
Posted by: Johnny | 09/07/2010 at 05:14 PM
Makes no sense at all! You take off a great up beat family show full of optimism and put on a criminals and murderers Jail show! Really smart move Discovery. Maybe you should change the name of your channel from the Discovery Channel to the Stupidity Channel! No wonder America is in the horrible state it is in!
The programing you put on does matter!! Discovery and all channels have a responsibility to put on good decent programming and not garbage like that criminal jail show. Who ever did this should be fired immediately. And Pitchmen should be put back on just as quick. It was a great show!
Posted by: Seth | 09/07/2010 at 04:09 PM
C'mon- BRING PITCHMEN BACK! It's the only reason I watch the Discovery channel!
Posted by: Katie@DomesticDebacle | 09/07/2010 at 03:22 PM
We were looking forward to more great ideas Thursday night, and something totally unrelated was on - not good. We checked the schedule this week, and again, it's not on. We are very disappointed. We have enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes action as well as the aspiring inventors and the practical and useful inventions. We really hope to see it back on SOON!
Posted by: Courtenay | 09/05/2010 at 06:31 PM
Discovery...are you trying to get more protesters outside your HQs? Was this James Jae Lee's doing while he was holding your employees hostage? NOT COOL...He was a nut, and he is dead. Put Pitchmen back up or Billy Mays WILL haunt you!!!
Posted by: Joshua Hammond | 09/04/2010 at 03:10 AM
I sent out notices to friends and kin when I found out the time and date for Pitchmen. Many who missed the first show watched the second and were planning to watch the third but there was no third. What happened? Me, I liked this year's first show even better than last year's shows. And you were right that Billy, as great as he was, was not THE show, the inventors and their struggles to win are what make it. Do let us know that it will come back soon. Beta
Posted by: Beta | 09/03/2010 at 09:10 PM
Complete waste of time
good call
Posted by: Hillary Laureen | 09/03/2010 at 09:09 PM
What gives, Discovery? I was incredibly disappointed when I turned in Thursday night and Pitchmen was nowhere to be found. This show offers A LOT to its viewers. What is more important? Learning about the direct response industry, what it takes to make it in this economy, the hope people have received from being part of this show, or watching reruns of shows everyone has already saw before?
Posted by: Natasha | 09/03/2010 at 06:37 PM
My sister and I looked forward to one particular show every week and this one was it and you took it away!!! Why? And I agree, if the ratings were low it's because you didnt promote it. We found Pitchmen had returned after Billy's death when checking listings to record something and we were so excited it was back. We even like this version better. Come back Pitchmen! Come back!
Posted by: LJA | 09/03/2010 at 04:41 PM
In this dour economy The Pitchmen is a show that gives hope to aspiring inventors. We need inventors to make our country great again and more economically stable. The heartwarming stories about some of these inventors is part of what gives us encouragement when the chips are down. This show has the awesome potential of lifting the spirits of all. Please don't pull the plug on it! Bring back The Pitchmen!
Posted by: Boo Ehrsam | 09/03/2010 at 01:09 PM
i was thoroughly disappointed to learn that Discovery has pulled Pitchmen from its lineup. it can't be because of ratings because DSC has done NOTHING to promote the new season... i was a loyal/faithful fan of the first season, talking it up to all my friends, but had no idea the show was returning, and even missed the first episode and would have missed the rest if it weren't for Joel McHale talking about it on The Soup. yes, without Billy the show is different, but its finding its voice and is still tremendously entertaining. do the right thing and please bring it back asap.
Posted by: SchnauzerLogic | 09/03/2010 at 12:51 PM
Pitchmen might not be the same show that it was with Billy Mays, but it is still one of the best realty based programs on TV.
Very disappointing to see this pulled after only 2 episodes. Bring this back sooner rather than later Discovery!!!
Posted by: Pop Culture Savant | 09/03/2010 at 12:41 PM
It's a sad commentary on the times we live in when tv execs decide we are more entertained by what goes on in County Jail than by POSITIVE, CREATIVE, INTELLIGENT, programming like Pitchmen!!!
Bring it back PLEASE! (pretty please?)
Posted by: JenC | 09/03/2010 at 11:02 AM
What have you people done? Pitchmen is a unique new show that quickly drew a following despite Discovery's lack of promotion. PUT IT BACK ON!
Posted by: Tom | 09/03/2010 at 09:21 AM
I tuned in and Pitchmen was not on!!
Very disappointed!
It has been a favorite and I could not wait to see this season...even opting for it over Project Runway (another favorite on a different channel).
Love the inventors stories and looking forward to seeing Sully, Arwen, Carla, and Billy III .....
Please put this back on soon!! it was like getting a small taste and having the cafe close before the main course comes.
Posted by: Rebecca | 09/03/2010 at 07:39 AM
Ary you kidding Discovery ? Let the show flow as it is picking up steam and really involves the viewers... Go eat more bark ! :(
Posted by: Joe | 09/03/2010 at 05:41 AM
I am very disappointed. I love this show. What happened and why take it off the air all of a sudden. Doesn't make sense, but that's TV.
Posted by: Eric T. | 09/03/2010 at 01:39 AM
Really!!!??? This makes no sense as I sat and watched some ridiculous show about jail and criminals....PitchMen is far more entertaining and my eight year old son is crushed - I didn't even know what to tell him...and the show you ran in it's place is simply not age appropriate for him...It's a sad day in our hose and to think when I woke up this morning, watching your channel was the first thing that ran through my head...I could hardly wait....Bring it back!!!
Posted by: Peter | 09/03/2010 at 12:32 AM
Dear Discovery Channel:
What is wrong with you? Why have you taken Pitchmen off the air? After we, the fans, have waited for more than a year for the second season, you pull it off after only two episodes, only to air some drivel about a county jail? Now there's quality programming.
If you had put anywhere near what you put into marketing other shows into marketing Pitchmen, I'm sure you would have seen higher ratings.
After Billy Mays passed, we waited for word of a second season, and you announced there would be a second season. Being a follower of Sully, Arwen and Billy III on Twitter, I have seen how much they have put into the second season, and I think for them, and for us fans, you should air the rest of the season now, now months from now.
Could you please explain to us why the show was taken off the air, and when it will come back? Honestly, Pitchmen was the only thing I watched Discovery for. I guess now I won't watch Discovery at all. Until Pitchmen is put back on the air...if you don't back out on that, too.
Posted by: Rob Richard | 09/02/2010 at 11:38 PM
Hey, Discovery - bring BACK Pitchmen ASAP!!! WHEN will it be back and WHY did you pull it after only two episodes? It's definitely a cut above so much of the dreck that's on tv and it's one of a kind. PLEASE give answers!
Posted by: linda | 09/02/2010 at 11:19 PM
I was upset that the show was not on tonight. It is one of the shows I look forward to watching - with friends, family, and others who share interest in the industry whether it be because of the people, inventions, or the effort it takes to make something like this happen.
I'm not sure why the show was canceled. If it was because of ratings, perhaps it was because the show was not promoted enough. I LOVE this show. People ARE watching, and it would be great if the show would return sometime soon.
Posted by: Selena | 09/02/2010 at 11:03 PM
How could you do this to the fans of Pitchmen. We have waited to long for the show to come back on!Maybe we should ban the channel and its advertisers so it will hurt your wallets as bad as we miss the show!
Posted by: Roberta | 09/02/2010 at 10:29 PM
Very very sad it wasn't on tonight :/ Bummed my Thursday night.
Posted by: Dan | 09/02/2010 at 10:18 PM
I really hope you guys do bring back the show later this year and don't cancel it. If the ratings weren't good, then move it to another night instead of running reruns of old shows that we've seen 50 times.
Posted by: Scott | 09/02/2010 at 10:09 PM
Noooooo...the longer it takes for the USA to see it, the longer I have to wait up here in Canada to see my favorite show! ARGH!
Posted by: Tania | 09/02/2010 at 10:05 PM
That's too bad! I was all set to watch and just thought my local cable screwed up the schedule again!
It's a great show! This season was fantastic so far! What the heck with the pulling it?!
Posted by: James | 09/02/2010 at 09:58 PM
I agree with Anne & Karen and have even posted a tweet about. We (as fans) get excited to see it and can't wait to see the next episode only to find out it has been pulled for jail house show. Let's get Pitchmen back on for all of us fans! It is a show I've learned a lot from and there are not many shows that you can say that about (only Shark Tank) & the fans rallied & ABC is bringing it back!!!
Posted by: Becky | 09/02/2010 at 09:38 PM
I love the show. Please bring it back soon! The ColdFire fire extinguisher demo was amazing, the sponge suit waterskiing stunt was hilarious, the HexLight was cool & useful, and we've only seen two episodes so far this season!
Not only is it an entertaining and educational show, it also helps people find out about all these inventions and the people behind them that we'd often never know about otherwise.
ColdFire's distributor said in a press release on Monday that sales increased 3,500% after the ColdFire episode of Pitchmen aired! So obviously a lot of people are watching.

As a HUGE fan of the show, I am extremely disappointed to hear this piece of news. For one, I was hoping to get to finish this season without a gap, especially since all of the fans have been waiting a while and wanting to see how it would turn out this season. For two, to reach a more broader audience, I really wish you guys would think about letting the episode be available somewhere online the next day or at least available through iTunes (we would even pay to rent/watch an episode!) There are SEVERAL fans who do not have cable and LOVE the show and would like to see it as the season goes instead of waiting for the DVD when it's all over.
For three, when you guys do bring back the season later this year, make sure you promote it MUCH better than you did the first time around. I am just really disappointed how there wasn't much of a to-do about the start of season two. (As a fan, I could only do so much: promote via Twitter, Facebook, my blog, etc but as a TV station that broadcasts the show, you should've promoted to millions.) You know, Billy Mays wouldn't have sat back and let it be quiet, he would've shouted it to the world that Pitchmen was coming back!
Fourthly, all of this is coming from a girl who thinks of Pitchmen as more than just a show. I developed GREAT friendships with a lot of people from this show and fans of the show (via Twitter&IRL) and I would hate to see it not succeed. Pitchmen; the show itself is unique and the people who are involved in the show are amazing!!!!!! That alone are the top two reasons this show SHOULD be promoted more to succeed even more than ever so there are many more seasons to come!
And lastly, I do love everything about the Discovery Channel. I just happen to be defensive when it comes to a show I really love and enjoy, and even more, when it's personal.

The show is lame anyway. I would rather it not return later in the year.

I would like to appear on your show. I have a new invention that I know will be a big seller. How can I audition for the show Pitchman?
