After Facing Death Head On, Travis Barker Goes Vegan

I remember it vividly--a few years ago I flipped on the local news only to find that the lear jet Travis Barker and DJ AM had boarded at our local airport in Columbia, S.C. had crashed. Both the pilots, several crew members, Barker's assistant and body guard were all dead and both DJ AM and Barker were in critical condition. They were rushed to a burn center in Augusta, GA.

It was a devastating accident made even worse when DJ AM died from a drug overdose just a year later. But for Barker escaping this tragedy with his life meant he would take an entirely different turn. Barker promised himself that if he ever walked again he would start taking better care of his body. Today he runs everyday, he’s given up meat and dairy, and he steers clear of prescription pain killers.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle and seen on MindBodyGreen:

“I’ve been vegan since I got out of the hospital… and before the plane crash, I was battling a painkiller addiction. For years."

“I can proudly say I didn’t even take any pain medication after I got out of the hospital. They told me I’d be on some of the medicine for the rest of my life, but I got off all of them. They made me a completely different person.”

Barker has bounced back in a big way though a fear of flying has caused issues for the musician, but he’s looking to alternative solutions like hypnotherapy to try and work through the problem. A positive result can come from even the worse tragedies. Cheers to Travis Barker!
