A New Year, A New Season
January 20, 2009
It's January and you know what that means: Opilio crab fishing has begun! The season is well under way and the guys are doing what they do best out on the big, bad Bering. They're on the hunt for Chionoecetes opilio -- also known as snow crab. It's tasty. It's wonderful. It's a way of life.
What other types of fishing take place in the waters surrounding Alaska? Check out the breakdown of fishing seasons across the Last Frontier state in this PDF from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game:
We'll bring you the latest on the guys as it happens but just know for now that the season is rolling along smoothly after everyone had an excellent holiday at the homestead.
In the meantime, watch an oldie but goodie -- Capt. Sig and the Harris men playing Alaskan Storm:
Happy New Year!
The Deadliest Catch Production Crew

I just wanted to say that I love the show and the all of the guys, keep up the good work. I can't wait for the next season!

My 10 year old with Autism and myself love the show , we can hardly wait for the next seasons. We try not to choose favorites, because everyone brings equal excitement to the catch. God Bless you all, and keep it safe out there.

Does anyone have an idea when the new season starts? Why aren't we seeing reruns? I'm really tired of Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs. I miss the Deadliest Catch.

Love the show. My 3 kids age 7,6 and 5 can't wait for the new season. They want me to go out with one of the boats and catch crab for them. I would love that myself. Hope the new season is as good as the last 4.

We need more shows like this one.How about putting on more from the fishermen on the east coast. the ones that catch lobsters or sword fish.

This is probably the most looked-forward to program on real TV. It seems like two years between seasons. Please God, look out for these brave souls.

I have watched all of the seasons since you have started and my family can't believe how much I love this program. I am the worse with names and I even remember your names as well as your boats names and your kids. I hope this new season finds everyone back on board and ready to fish. Keep doing what you do and stay safe. I just know that God will be watching over each of you.

I'm so addicted to the show, the other day I started having dreams about actually being there, lol. If you knew me, you would know that would never happen in a million years because of my fear of water. But in all seriousness, I pray for all of your safety and for good health for Capt. Phil. From our family to all of yours, we love you guys!!! Can't wait for the next new show.

As with so many others I have watched this show since it began. When they show reruns the whole family will stop and watch no matter how many times they have watched it before. At one time I thought my job was tough being a female correctional officer in a maxium security male facility. But then I watch your show and realize just how easy my job is. I hope to see this show continue for many more years.
You Guy's are Great and we love you!!
