Valentine's Day 2013: Georgetown Cupcake's 5-Year Anniversary
02/12/2013
Valentine's Day is a special and sentimental day for both of us. We first opened Georgetown Cupcake on Valentine's Day 2008. This
year, Valentine's Day marks the 5-year anniversary of our bakery!
It's hard to believe it has been five years since we first opened the doors of our tiny bakery in Washington, DC. While the past five years have seemed like a lifetime to us, cupcakes actually date back quite a bit longer…back to 1796 to be exact! That's right, the very first cupcake recipe was published over 200 years ago!
In this Thursday's new episode of DC Cupcakes, we go back in time and attempt to bake cupcakes in an 18th century kitchen in Colonial Williamsburg. What's it like to bake cupcakes in a kitchen with NO electricity, running water, utensils, or mixers? In this episode, we take baking cupcakes from scratch to a whole new level. We churn our own butter, chase chickens around the field to get eggs, make our own whisks from twigs, and learn to start a fire in a wood-burning oven to bake our cupcakes. As you'll see, it's not easy!
And, on top of that, in this new episode, we create a giant pig out of cupcakes for a local county fair -– where the two of us end up judging a county-wide cupcake contest and have our own personal bake-off. Let's just say that one of our most popular Georgetown Cupcake flavors ends up getting deep-fried!
We hope that everyone has an extra sweet Valentine's Day and enjoys this all new episode of DC Cupcakes on Thursday! DC Cupcakes Thursday, February 14th @ 7pm ET/PT on TLC!

I love your show. Just happened to tune in the other day to see the one with the contest and the Giant Cupcake Pig. Super show. (LOVE that Sophie! What a total BABE!) But sorry Sophie...I think that fried red velvet cupcake would be worth a try. I now know one place worth visiting in the DC area. Thanks ladies. ~ Your newest fan.
