Walking the "Kitties"
December 02, 2008
After all this time, my mood is completely dependent on how much fun I am having with the lions. I had a great morning with the cats today. As I arrived to find the cats, they all stood up and were ready for war. I thought that might be bad news for a nice day, but things got better.
Shizzle and Manizzle were sneaking up behind me and Whinny (right) let them get nice and close. Whinny was there in case I did something she didn't like, but she allowed me to hang pretty close to her babies. After a little while with the cats in that spot, Cleo took her cubs and Whinny with her cubs to go for a drink. There was some water nearby in a nice open area. It had been so long that I had walked them, I was very anxious to get off the quad and walk with the cats.
As soon as I got on foot I knew that I was going to have a good walk. Cleo and Whinny watched me, but they allowed me to go wherever I wanted. I was just sitting with them and enjoying the moment. It had been such a long time that I just sat with them. I wasn't trying to figure anything out or push any boundaries with them; we were just sharing some time and some space. It really is the most calming thing I have ever done.
I have been on a high the rest of the day. I won't even tell you that I am trapped in my tent right now because of a storm. I won't even mention that I am starving but can't cook anything in the rain. OK, I guess just a mention. None of it will get me down because I had such a nice walk with my kitties.

Dave, you need to look at the big picture! Do you realize your ignorance is endangering lions? While you are filming this tastless show of yours, you are never in "real" danger are you? Try being out there with lions ALONE! Now, thats a film worth watching! What you are doing is playing games with lions for t.v. which will and maybe already has gotten lions killed. I know a little about film making, editing, cut scenes, bloopers etc, You only show what you want the people to see.How many times were you almost cat-chow, and they had to shoot the lion? not with the camera? my advise to you, leave the LIONS ALONE!You can't control nature, Who do you think you are? I no longer watch Animal Planet because of your selfish actions and stupidity. From Tacoma Washington ...Scott

I think that would be really neat to get close to the cubs. (Like Whinny let you.) P.S.- Cool pic:)

Wow sounds like quite an andventure. Here is more about my cause.
Fred Smilek is the acting president of the Society to Save Endangered Species. It was founded two years ago by Fred Smilek along with his two best friends Charles and Jonathan. The Society to Save Endangered Species has blossomed from a minute organization with three members to one with more than ten members. Since its inception the organization has been able to raise nearly $25,000 in funds.
It was Fred Smilek’s love and passion for rare and nearly extinct species that caused him to form this wonderful organization in 2006. Additional content about the history of wildlife conservation can be found here. If you have any questions regarding the Society to Save Endangered Species, Fred Smilek, or how you can help insure that these rare species are around for a long time to come have a look at Fred Smilek’s home page which can be found here

He is finished and already back in Canada. The project is complete and already in the making of a TV series. This is the last post you will see, as Walk the Lion will air in spring.

I really enjoy your work, thank you for that. You have showed me how amazing and beautiful Gods creations are, you are so lucky to get to work so close to the animals I think that that is an amazing thing. Stay safe and you have my prayers.

I really enjoy your shows and was wondering where you went after "Into the Lions Den" and "Living with Tigers". After reading blog am really looking forward to the program that comes from your sacrifice, loneliness and self renewal! You make me laugh and think, wonder and worry. I have to tell you that there must be something in your voice because with every video, my cats were curious about who was speaking, going so far as to climb into my lap to get closer to my laptop and sniff the speakers and screen! Not something they usually take an interest in at all. I hope you have had good holidays and been able to see and do all the things you were planning while thinking of your return to civilization. I am glad your Mom told you she didn't want any sucky kids because I think that is a big part of what has made you the person that you have become, but as your friends Father says, be smart and stay safe! Whether in civilization or the bush, that's definitely a code to live by! Looking forward to seeing any new projects and have to say, You and Rachael Ray, the two people I would love to meet!

Hi Dave,
Not sure if you actually read these comments... but here goes nothing.
I have just started reading your blog on here after seeing Into The Lion's Den and I think what you are doing is great! I wish I could have the guts like you to go out there and just do it!
Your blogs are so entertaining, I don't think you realise how funny you are! :)
Not sure where you are or what you are doing at the moment, but I, and i'm sure the rest of your supporters, hope to hear more from you soon!
Until then, stay safe! :)
