Ol' Bruty Tooty
December 06, 2008
I walked Brutus yesterday, maybe for the last time. I'm going to miss him and our relationship. I had thought that I had lost our relationship for a bit. For the last little while Brutus has been showing me some pretty uncharacteristic aggression. I thought that my time with him might be done.
In the past few weeks, even months maybe, I have been getting threatened by Brutus a lot. Most of the aggression was based around his females and cubs. I wasn't sure if my getting closer to his family was getting him nervous and protective, or if my being around for so long made him want to fit me into his dominance hierarchy. Which ever it was, his response was very dangerous for me.
I have been waiting for a while to see him by himself so that I could judge our relationship without any of the other possibilities weighing in on our interaction. Yesterday I found him out in the open and decided to test him out. If I was still OK with him I would get a nice walk, and if I wasn't I was so close to him that he was going to get very aggressive very fast.
Lucky for me ol' Bruty Tooty is still my buddy. He and I had a great little hang out session. We just sat out in the bush and checked each other out. He was great. I did notice that he is getting old quick, his condition is drastically different from when I first met him. I guess he could say the same of me? I am pretty sure as I am getting ready to leave, he is one cat I might not see upon a return visit. He is a great cat and will be remembered as such.
With that possibly being my last walk with him, it was a great experience. We sat and hung out for a while. He was very relaxed. After a while he got up to go find the girls. I stood up and started walking with him. As I did, he charged me. Just one last reminder who runs the joint! I tried walking with ol' Bruty a few times over the last six months and he did the same thing each time. He is a lions with rules, I love that. I am glad I will get to leave here knowing that my buddy through this whole thing, is still my buddy.

Dave, you need to look at the big picture! Do you realize your ignorance is endangering lions? While you are filming this tastless show of yours, you are never in "real" danger are you? Try being out there with lions ALONE! Now, thats a film worth watching! What you are doing is playing games with lions for t.v. which will and maybe already has gotten lions killed. I know a little about film making, editing, cut scenes, bloopers etc, You only show what you want the people to see.How many times were you almost cat-chow, and they had to shoot the lion? not with the camera? my advise to you, leave the LIONS ALONE!You can't control nature, Who do you think you are? I no longer watch Animal Planet because of your selfish actions and stupidity. From Tacoma Washington ...Scott
