AM I WEIRD?
December 09, 2008
So, I wonder if I'm weird. Well, I know that I am weird, but I wonder if I am weirder that I was when I left the city? I know that I have developed better bush sense since I was began here, but does that mean that I have lost some city sense?
My close friends and family are used to my poor social skills when I come out of the bush. It is quite normal for the people who are close to me to attempt to ease me into society. Its only when they pull me aside in a social setting and tell me that I have been in appropriate when I realize that I really have lost the ability to distinguish between socially correct and socially incorrect.
The worst thing about coming back to the city and being social is people's city comfort zone is way closer than the bush comfort zone. I feel like everyone is a close talker. I get horribly claustrophobic. The weirder I feel, the more I only want to be around friends and family.
I think it's when I start dating again, working out in gyms or going out socially with friends that I will be really forced to test how poor my social skill have become. I find it funny that the only gauge we have to know if we have lost it, is when we notice other peoples' reactions to our behavior.
So as I pose the question of how weird I am, the only answer will come when I leave here and reintroduce myself back into society. The only ones that will get an answer to the question will be the ones I interact with. Cross your fingers and wish me luck!

Dave, you need to look at the big picture! Do you realize your ignorance is endangering lions? While you are filming this tastless show of yours, you are never in "real" danger are you? Try being out there with lions ALONE! Now, thats a film worth watching! What you are doing is playing games with lions for t.v. which will and maybe already has gotten lions killed. I know a little about film making, editing, cut scenes, bloopers etc, You only show what you want the people to see.How many times were you almost cat-chow, and they had to shoot the lion? not with the camera? my advise to you, leave the LIONS ALONE!You can't control nature, Who do you think you are? I no longer watch Animal Planet because of your selfish actions and stupidity. From Tacoma Washington ...Scott

I love lions too! I wish I was a lion! Well, a lioness, because I'm female. I'd love to live with them, spend time with them, be one of them, learn the way they adapt to their surroundings...did I mention be one of them? When you're around them so much, do you develop a personality similar to theirs? Wow, that would be so cool! Yes, I'm being serious! That is one thing I wish was possible. I honestly have dreams at night involving me, transforming into a beautiful lioness, and leading a pride of my own.

Wow, there's a lot of dedicated fans here I see! You know, for as much as I love animals, I don't think I've ever really watched Animal Planet. I suppose I should give that a shot sometime. I didn't even know who you were (I don't know if you actually read these, so I don't know if I should actually say 'you', but I will anyway I suppose) until I opened up this month's Cosmopolitan and saw the article comparing humans to big cats. (the photos are gorgeous. That is one beautiful cat). You have my dream job. -jealous-
In response to this blog though, yes. You are most definitely weird. You compare humans to cats (very well of course)and I'm sure many of your best friends include these animals. This makes you weird and totally amazing. =) I mean being weird is fun. Looking at these pictures of you with these big cats has really got me looking forward to starting a degree in zoology. I've been thinking about doing it for a while and hadn't decided until the moment I saw those pictures and thought 'I want that to be me' (and 'wow, that man is gorgeous' of course). So, thank you for being weird and inspiring me to be weird as well.

You, Dave Salmoni are not weird. There is nothing about you that has to do with the word weird.

Oh, gurl, I made a typo of my own, I should have written "several times" in: "...if not also several time more recently than that." Also, all you crazies out there don't get the wrong impression that I was inviting you to track me down and go out with me; I was addressing Dave Salmoni and requesting that he go out with me, and if you can't tell this without this additional clarification then you are pretty weird yourself as well. Dave, you really should be adventurous and try dating one of your fans, as long as that fan is me. So what if you're straight, you should try experimenting but only, of course, as long as it's just with me and for my benefit:)

You seem to have exactly the same kind of social awkwardness and ineptitude that I have. It may seem selfish, but I'm glad you have this problem because by being so similar to me and the fact that I would understand you more than most people, it should give me a better chance of going out with you:). Anyway, you're really hot and stuff so look me up. At the very least send me some pics or video, if you can.
One thing that is weird, is that this post is dated Dec 09, 2008, yet it was clearly posted long after 01-22-2009 when I know I definitely checked for updates, if not also several time more recently than that, so you waited waaaay too long to post this:). Also, what is this "was began" stuff? "I know that I have developed better bush sense since I was began here,....." Maybe you made one of those typos I make when I don't proofread, by changing the way I'm phrasing something midsentence, then forgetting to delete the extra words in the old phrasing. I'm clearly not being critical, I'm just hanging on to your every word because you're sooo hot, lol. If this is some kind of weird archaic phrasing it probably should be was "begun," not "began." Don't take this as not serious; I'm just sooo entertaining even when I'm serious that I sometimes come off as sounding like I'm just joking. Track me down and go out with me, DOuglas.

In my sense there is no such a thing as weird or starnge because what is normal for one may not be for another. I consider myself to be weird but only because society's norms place one into such an arbitrary category. Being weird is nothing to worry about, it is what it is because there is no one that is normal, trust me. That which is seen as the most strange is the most normal, and what is seen as the most normal is the most strange.

Dave, you worry about the most mediocre things. With the topic of being socially inept, it's reasonable to not have a smooth transition into the norm of society. The thing is, that all these socially accepted norms of the society today are not written in a book. (I could be incorrect about that of course :)) You'll eventually get the hang of things, and that's the way it is. Of course, society is more accepting of people who are famous, so these worries of yours would probably be something that would be more of importance to the average individual. I do of course wish you luck on all your endeavours.

Pah. You think you're weird? You need to meet me. I think Christian Bale's rant, (obviously you have been in the bush for the past...forever, so I don't expect you to know what I am talking about.) was the coolest thing I have ever heard. I have an uncontrollable habit of spitting when I am in public, especially when I am in a city. I feel like maybe it shows all of you "City Folk" that I am a "small town country girl" and can throw down when pressed, or that I am simply lacking in manners, but I will go the former. How's that for socially inappropriate? When I work at my camp all summer long, I feel the same way you do when I make that rare trip into town; awkward. So fear not Dave, you are not alone. Besides, you can always bring me along to your social gatherings, I'm sure I can make you look like a regular Southern Gentleman.

Yea I noticed that also. The sentence didn't make sense. But its okay. Its nothing big.
I can't wait for the documentary to come out.
PS. Don't worry about being weird. My friends call me weird also.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Though, if you need a little help socializing, I'd be glad to show you around :). J/K. I think everyone who works with animals is a little weird - we have to be, otherwise we wouldn't understand the creatures we work with.

your going to do great. Everyone is like that t a certain point and they haven't spent months out in the wild with lions. Don't worry and have fun.
