The Most Dangerous Time
November 29, 2008
This is a real funny time in the project. It's a time where I have been trying to soak up as much of the lions and Erindi and the simple life (not the Paris Hilton show, I mean living in a tent) as possible. At the same time I am starting to look forward to what I might do when I get back to civilization.
The general outline of what I might do is already laid out due to Christmas being an important time for my family. My mother always made a huge effort for our family over Christmas while we grew up and in so doing, has made it a very important time in my family's year. We all go home and just spend time together. It's awesome. So my mom will fill my calendar until around the 28th when I am going on vacation with my friends.
With that decided, I have been thinking of what else I might get up to. I know I want to go to a Chicago Bears game. I really hope they can keep their butts in the playoffs. I have been listening to Sal Piamonte's music a lot still and I hear he is going to be doing some shows. That will be high on my "to do" list. I guess the other very important thing to do will be hit the gym. I am in TERRIBLE shape. My body is a mess.
While I sit and imagine the things to do, I have to remind myself that these thoughts, if they get away from me, can kill me. The most dangerous time in these types of projects are the beginning, when you don't know what to expect, and the end, when you are thinking about a concert and not the lion standing in front of you. I promise to keep myself in check and think of lions while I can still be with them. I will think of home as I sit in my water-logged tent. Yes, that's right, it's still raining and I forgot to close my window ... again.

Dave I think what you are doing is wonderful I am from South Africa your involvement and relationship shows there is a personal side to lions we need that. And Scott I think you should keep your comment to yourself I have been involved with filming as well if you read Dave's diarized blogs you would notice that all the lions are still accounted for!

Dave, you need to look at the big picture! Do you realize your ignorance is endangering lions? While you are filming this tastless show of yours, you are never in "real" danger are you? Try being out there with lions ALONE! Now, thats a film worth watching! What you are doing is playing games with lions for t.v. which will and maybe already has gotten lions killed. I know a little about film making, editing, cut scenes, bloopers etc, You only show what you want the people to see.How many times were you almost cat-chow, and they had to shoot the lion? not with the camera? my advise to you, leave the LIONS ALONE!You can't control nature, Who do you think you are? I no longer watch Animal Planet because of your selfish actions and stupidity. From Tacoma Washington ...Scott

Oi Dave,
I don't know if I will say is a consolation, but here in Brasil has also rained a lot. A few days ago, even a tragedy happened because of the rains in the southern state called Santa Catarina. Killed many people and so many lost their homes. It was terrible.
Changing the subject, I'm making fan of his friend Sal Piamonte, it is very nice and he sent me a copy of his new album and a hand-written message to me. I love him.
Moreover, we are in the week of the tiger or tiger week, whatever, I hope the animalplanetbrasil display any serie with you that I didn't watched yet.
Be good holidays and good vacation Dave.
My motto is don't worry, be happy, is what I wish for you.

Dave,
Speaking of silly questions, as pointed out by Julie B... But in looking at this picture of you and your green four-wheeler, I noticed some black lettering just in front of your knee, partially blocked by your shepherd's stick. Is it just me or does it actually say "Rocket" on there? O.o Just curious.
Be well and be safe.

Julie B, that's actually a very good question. So far he's not mentioned a single reptile save the two crocodiles in the nearby lake. I'm actually kind of curious as well on the snake front. O.o

I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question to anyone reading this or to you, but while it's not "cat" related, I'm kinda curious if you've had any encounters with snakes in the past 6 months. Recently caught a show that highlited an African something-or-another python. The thing amazing (to me) was able to reposition a young gazelle or similar, and tried repeatedly to eat it. No doubt you'd be a large meal for a snake, but have you had any unwelcomed guests of the cold blooded kind visit your tent...maybe while you left your dang tent open?

David...Room for one more on that vacation? I mean its nice in Arizona this time of year, but a change of scenery, especially after having to deal with relatives over the holidays would be great!! Anyways, it does sound like you are ready to go home...are there plans to ever return to Erindi to check up on these lions? It would be interesting to see how the cubs you have been getting closer to, respond to you as they have gotten older by then. Will they remember or won't they? Take care..

Dave,
Of course at that time everyone needs to be in family, I think those days of rest will come very well, besides the family should always come first even more whenit comes to our mother ... I hope you enjoy your days relaxing much so that when he returns to erindi comes with new energies to completing this project so interesting that you start months ago ...
plenty of rest and fun with family and friends who are much safer to talk about ...

You're absolutely right; the remaining time will fly by and before you know it, you'll be saying your goodbyes and wishing you spent "just a little more time doing ...(this or that). Your friends and family I'm sure are anxiously awaiting your return just as much as you are looking forward to seeing them. Enjoy the moment you're in now.
As for the Bears....sigh...you apparently haven't seen them play lately. I'm sorry, but it doesn't look good right now. I think I can play better, which should pretty much give you an indication of the situation.
