A Discomforting Lack of Nature
June 01, 2008
I am really getting anxious now. There has been lots of planning and talking and getting ready for this project, but I am still in the city. I am done with cites and large groups of strangers and a general lack of nature. I haven’t had a relationship or interaction with a non-domestic animal in weeks. It’s getting so bad I have to go to the park to see trees. I sit there and watch all the dogs interacting just to get a tiny fix. The feeling of being cooped up in the city is like having a nervous itch. I walk around with this itch and know the only way to scratch it will be to get out in the bush. I can feel myself creating distance between me and my friends and family and everyone around me. The more uncomfortable I get, the more introverted I become. All this while, I am sitting wondering what the lions I meet are going to be like.

Dave, you need to look at the big picture! Do you realize your ignorance is endangering lions? While you are filming this tastless show of yours, you are never in "real" danger are you? Try being out there with lions ALONE! Now, thats a film worth watching! What you are doing is playing games with lions for t.v. which will and maybe already has gotten lions killed. I know a little about film making, editing, cut scenes, bloopers etc, You only show what you want the people to see.How many times were you almost cat-chow, and they had to shoot the lion? not with the camera? my advise to you, leave the LIONS ALONE!You can't control nature, Who do you think you are? I no longer watch Animal Planet because of your selfish actions and stupidity. From Tacoma Washington ...Scott

hello my name is matthew. I have seen daves show on animal planet, and was really inspired. I have wanted to be a zoologist for many years, but do to an illness I have been unable to pursue a career. I know what he means when he says he has an itch that can't be scratched. Wabting to be close to nature is what I want everyday. It makes me forget how sick I am, and my own disabilities. Im not sure who will see this message, I guess I am writing it just to be heard. I just wanted to say for someone like me to see a show like " into the pride " puts me out of the hospital for awhile and into nature. Mybe somewhere someone will read this and be thankful for the health and happiness they have.

I love watching the lions react to everything you do! You must really enjoy it. And don't listen to scott quach, he is just trying to make you feel bad. there are people that will trash anyone to make themselves feel better. I don't think you would shoot them no matter what and I don't think you are doing any harm by observing them and interacting with them.
I always like to watch wild animals on T.V and it would an incredable to do what you are doing. Keep it up and as long as you arn't endangering their lives in any way you have MY support.

I understand this, but hey soon (Well you already are) will be gone. Still can't believe you went to the city if your love is the wild; but new experiences can bring new loves or show us our true ones. I picked my college on the sole basis that it had the most trees of all the others I had as choices.
Just wait, you'll kinda sorta miss the city - just a little... maybe! lol

I can relate to feeling that there isnt enough nature around. Many times I wish I could go, at least for vacation, to Alaska to really get an experience of what GODS beauty and creation looks like, and Africa is another place to see such a thing. I cant help but wonder though, if you are so fond of the country, how come you went to live in New York? That is the complete opposite of what it seems to me you like. With other states where you could be surrounded by more nature, why did you choose New York?

It must be tough ostracizing yourself from what you know; your family, friends, and others you care about. Good luck on your journey.
