Today We Honor Two + Four-Legged Military Heroes
05/28/2012
Before you light up that grill or lay out by the beach, let's not forget why we celebrate Memorial Day. Its a day to commemorate the many brave soldiers who have heroically given their lives in the line of battle. So today, we honor our soldiers and the four-legged canines who have protected our nation.
Military dogs play an important role in the safety of our nation and soldiers. They patrol land, sniff out explosives and mines, and have carried our wounded soldiers to safety.
For more information on dogs in the military: check out our friend Maria Goodavage's new book, Soldier Dogs, or visit the US War Dog Association to see how you can help.
If you are interested about how you can give a retired military dog a new leash on life, you learn mora bout adopting a retired military canine at the official Military Working Dog Adoptions website.
