Canine Comrades: Loyal Dog Won't Leave Friend Behind [WATCH]
03/17/2011
Don't Worry, This Particular Story Ends Well....
You don't have to speak Japanese to understand the sympathetic tones of the two men observing these dogs who are also disaster victims -- and one loyal dog refusing to leave his hurt friend's side. There is so much we don't understand about the emotional lives of animals. But we know they can suffer tremendously, and we know they care for each other. We wish all the people and animals of Japan heartfelt concern during this incomprehensibly difficult time. Ganbatte kudasai! ("Don't give up!")
According to Facebook entry, a resident of Japan, Kenn Sakurai, is reporting that both dogs were found alive in Mito, Ibaraki. And thanks to the efforts of Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, the two dogs are currently in the care of a local shelter! YAY!
As well, CNN is reporting that both dogs received medical attention. The injured dog is currently at a veteranarian getting care and the loyal dog friend is at a shelter.
What Are They Saying?
Here is a general summary of the mens' conversation in Japanese: at first the two thought the injured dog was dead. They immediately called a vet for assistance for both dogs. The men say they wish they had brought food to give the dogs.

When I say that video it made me cry. Whoever says that animals don't have feelings should take a closer look. My dog Halligan has such a wide range of emotions that are so visible its easy to understand this pair! I'm so glad they were rescued!

Mans best friend, these dogs have feelings like we do. They know when something is wrong, something you don't see that often, or ever!! Dogs are smart animals!!

Just comes to show that a dog is not only a man's best friend but most definitely also proves they are faithful to their own breed. What more can I say - shame to us for being the so called human being!!!

WOW!!! What an article. How can we keep up on the dogs rescue effort? Will these dogs be reunited once the injured dog is released from the veterinarian? Has there been a fund set up for these particular dogs?
Thank you!

Wow, what a heart wrenching video. I've been so worried about the people and pets of Japan that I can't sleep. My heart goes out to all of the people there. I was so happy to read that the dogs were rescued, but I too would like to know if they will be together again. Please do a follow up story on them if possible.

I hope both dogs will regain health and they will somehow be reunited and able to remain together. I am so thankful and happy that they received compassionate care and were rescued.
