Titan the World's Tallest Dog
11/17/2009
You saw him here first!Last week, it was announced by the Guinness World Records that Titan the Great Dane is now the World's Tallest Dog. Titan happens to live in my neck of the woods here in Southern California and I suddenly realized that I'd seen him somewhere recently ... but where? Upon further inspection, I remembered that Titan indeed made an appearance in The Daily Treat's "Fun with a Kissing Booth" video just a few months ago (see pic at right), along with his mom Diana Taylor.
At 42.25 inches tall and 190 lbs, the 4-year-old Dane from San Diego is deaf, epileptic and partly blind, and was adopted by proud mom Diana Taylor from a rescue group in Tennessee. Taylor was living in Atlanta when she found Titan as a pup on Petfinder and ultimately adopted him from the Middle Tennessee Great Dane Rescue. When he could see out of one eye, she taught him sign language. As he went blind, they learned to communicate by touch.
Titan replaced previous record-holder Gibson, a Great Dane from Northern California who died earlier this year after fighting bone cancer, the Associated Press reports. Gibson measured a little shorter than Titan, at 42.2 inches.
Taylor plans to throw a party for Titan to celebrate, complete with her dog's favorite treats, but it seems he has already started to rejoice: when Titan heard the news, the pooch slobbered all over his official Guinness certificate, Taylor told Sign On San Diego.
