I can has botox: Hello Kitty turns 35

10/22/2009

At 35 perhaps Hello Cougar!?

500x_GAGAKITTY100909 Hello Kitty has graced everything from coin purses, erasers, and gum to toasters, waffle makers, neck massagers (SRSLY), couture, and diamond jewelry. She has long been a muse to artists & designers worldwide and has brought smiles to fans 35 years. In fact, pop diva Lady Gaga (at right) recently wore an entire Hello Kitty gown for a shoot with celeb photographers Markus Klinko and Indrandi. Now, in honor of Hello Kitty's 35th anniversary, Sanrio is bringing a very unique celebration and retrospective, Three Apples, to the US.

Three Apples is a multi-dimensional exhibition and celebration of all things Hello Kitty and the first ever event of its kind in the US.  The celebration takes place over a three-week residence at the Royal /T café / shop / art space in Culver City, CA. Open to the public and free of charge, the Three Apples Exhibit will feature an art exhibition, unique product and design displays, pop-up shop, and special events for fans of all ages — all celebrating the world’s most iconic feline.

Featuring 80 eclectic artists interpreting Hello Kitty, part of the sales goes to the non-profit L.A. Works.

The show will also feature a pop-up shop, an over-the-top Hello Kitty-i-fied fake apartment, a birthday party with Hello Kitty herself in attendance and other events.

ps. True confession: I am fascinated by Lady Gaga, not for her vocal talent, but her style and fashion sense makes for true theatre! Did you see her in the gyrotronic on SNL? Need I say more?  If you share in this fascination, be sure to check out
