Britches Plays Ball

04/29/2009

Britches_pony_smFrom the moment I caught a whiff of that unmistakable resin smell wafting from the brightly colored box containing my very first model horse at age six, I have had a thing for horses (…like most little girls at that age). Their beauty and elegance is absolutely incredible and contrary to something I recently read on the Onion News Network, horseback riding is not merely an expensive form of sitting.

Even my childhood pet hamster, ‘Hammy,’ bless his heart, was not safe from my obsession with horses and patiently played along with my horsey games as can be seen in the photo below, which I have entitled “Ham on the Range.”   Horse_guinea_pig

Fast forwarding to today, I recently learned that my neighbor and friend, Gina, had begun co-parenting a miniature horse named “Britches.”  According to other friends and eyewitnesses, Britches wasn’t just a regular miniature horse, but a tiny pony possessing some very unique talents relative to his dexterity with a large blue yoga ball. I just had to see it for myself.

Now maybe his affinity for the ball is normal behavior for horses (...some cursory Googling does indicate that select horses do enjoy an occasional pick-up game), but irregardless, the bottom line is that it’s absolutely hysterical to watch and its great to see that there are indeed fun, interactive toys that can keep horses busy and engaged...small or large.

Do you have or know of a horse that enjoys an occasional pick up game? If so, please share your story, leave a comment! Enjoy the video!
