Misty Croslin … Cat's out of the bag

In my last blog post I alluded to new information law enforcement had received in the search for Haleigh Cummings, a 5-year-old girl who vanished from her Putnam County, Fla., home on Feb. 10.

In that post, I informed you that a source close to the investigation had told Investigation Discovery that law enforcement had received new leads "revolving around the timeline the girl disappeared and the initial report given to law enforcement." I also said, "due to the sensitive nature of the information obtained by ID, no further details can be provided on it at this time."

Unfortunately, that information has since been leaked and was reported on tonight by both a local Florida outlet and a national media outlet.

The information I am referring to is a tip that investigators received from a local resident who came forward and told them that Misty Croslin, the 17-year-old girlfriend of Haleigh's father, 24-year-old Ronald Cummings, was not at home the night Haleigh disappeared. It has further been alleged that the night Haleigh was abducted was not the first time Croslin had sneaked out while Cummings was at work and his kids were sleeping. There are further allegations regarding her activities at that time; however that information has not officially been released.

Croslin's inconsistent statements to both law enforcement and the media have been apparent since the start of the investigation. Whether or not these new allegations will cause her to reveal new information to the authorities is yet to be seen.

Haleigh Cummings is described as three feet tall, weighing 39 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt and underwear. As far as Misty is concerned, we're talking about a reportedly recently-turned-seventeen year old who admits to being the children's caregiver 24-7. In my opinion, not too many 16-17 year olds will tolerate that burden forever, not even if the kids are her own. And, in this case, we're talking about a teenager who is possibly a transient (I read she'd been in and out of the area at least over the last year or so), likely a drug-user, and admits to preferring "city" life to suburban or rural. It disturbs me that she's only been Ronald's girlfriend for a mere 5 months, yet the family defends her as though they've known her for much longer.

I'm curious if Misty had a key. I think it's possible she snuck out while he was at work and propped the back door open so that she could sneak back in, discreetly and unseen, before boyfriend got home. I don't know what kinds of locks they had on that back door, I'm just speculating on the possibilities, but I used to live in an apartment that had a thumb-turn-type lock on it that could only be opened from the inside (without a key). The landlord referred to it as a deadbolt. I was always afraid of accidentally getting locked out when I stepped outside, and did use a wedge when I went out in the yard.

Anyway, if someone was scouting out the home awaiting opportunity.....well, there it was.

Another possible scenario is that when she returned, something awful had happened to Haleigh in the home in her absence, and Misty covered up (possibly with help). The washing of the blanket was a red flag to me, but it could be nothing...

I also don't like it that Misty was wide awake when Ronald got home. He stated he knew something was up b/c everyone was usually asleep. My guess is that she never slept. I'm not buying her coincidentally waking up at 3 am story. That was also a red flag from the beginning, in my opinion.

As a matter of fact, I'm not convinced that either one of them is being totally honest. Do we know for a fact that Ronald passed his lie detector test? What about Misty's? Do we know for a fact that Ronald was at work until 3 am? There are certain aspects of Ronald's history that don't sit well with me one bit. Could he have intimidated or ripped-off the wrong person? Drug deal gone bad? An addict after some free drugs? And I'm not convinced that some harm didn't befall Haleigh at the hands of her father, either.

If we are to believe their story, then whatever happened to Haleigh appears to have happened under Misty's watch, and I say she's AT THE LEAST negligently responsible. If she did something careless in order to steal a few hours for herself, I believe she would be frightened to her core that Ronald would find out. I believe he's an abuser and a control-freak with a dangerously bad temper.

If I were an investigator on the case, I'd be removing Misty from the premises and seriously grilling her by now. And if I were a family member, I'd be telling the police EVERYTHING I know, NO MATTER WHAT the consequences. We're talking about the life of a precious, defenseless 5 year old child here!

Hm like we were surprised by this news... as I stated in my first post on this case... search door by door. Someone in the neighborhood knew that girlfriend/babysitter left the kids unattended and took advantage of it.

Time and time again the children (truly) abducted from their own bedroom were found extremely close to home, unfortunately dead.

Why doesnt' Misty know what Haleigh was wearing? For God's sake SHE is the one who supposedly put her to bed! Why don't we know how long Misty was awake before Ronald came home? Why would a perpetrator take a 5 year old and leave a 17 year old girl alone? Why does Misty's story have so many versions? Why does she give a lot of inane details like someone who is lying does? Why did she keep saying "they" when referring to whoever may have taken Hayleigh? Why did she have to ask Ronald if he locked the door when the 911 operator asked if the door had been locked? According to Ronald the door WAS locked, so why no sign of forced entry? And she "didn't hear anything?" Why didn't Misty call 911 immediately when the time directly following any incident such as this is SO precious????? If this were a true abduction the perp may have still been in the area. I don't believe that this went down the way that they are saying.

Wow, this is so sickening! Both these immature youngsters bear a big responsibility for Haleigh missing. The father leaving his children in the care of a teenage transient that couldn't care less. Then this girl goes off and leaves the children alone.

Since she made it a habit, I agree that the abductor is close by. He/She was able to watch Misty's routine. It could very well be that Haleigh, dead or alive, is still very very close to her home.

I sure hope this turns out differently than most stories and this girl is found alive.

Due to some weird twist, I can't find any fault with what has been posted ahead of me. The problem with Misty's stories is not that she adds to them, but that she seems to take away information rather than embellish as her memory improves. LE should separate Misty and Ronald, convincing her that it's for the purpose of him not being prosecuted for statutory rape, and then sweat her. If nothing else, it will keep her from becoming the victim of one of his rages that I fear are all too frequent in the Cummings household.

I too am very skeptical of Misty's accounts. For goodness sakes she's a child herself. Why is a 17 y/o taking care of a 5 and 4 y/o full time acting like "mom"? Why is Misty's family allowing this?

Something is definately wrong and I fear for Haleigh. She is an endangered child due to her ailment of Turners syndrome and is in need of hormone injections.

If someone saw Misty anywhere but where she was supposed to be, sleeping with the children, they need to come forward and say so, where was she and who was she with? How can someone get into that trailer home if there is a deadbolt lock? Did someone else have a key? The back door was found propped open with a cinderblock, why? the kitchen light was on, who knew the layout of that home?

Why is Misty washing a blanket when that blanket is needed to cover Haleigh that night? I don't buy that one bit but it's not for me to say, it's up to the family of Haleigh to find out and investiage. Why is Misty confused as to what Haleigh wore to bed? Something is so wrong with this scenario and I hope and pray law enforcement are on top of this.

Why would someone just take Haleigh? Ronald Jr. was right there and left behind? Is it a Sex Offender who took her? And if that is a possibility, who knew the schedule of the father, Ronald Sr?

I thought this might have been some form of retribution to the father and his unsavory past. Does someone have a bone to pick with him?

I fear the worst as the days pass and I hope and pray for the safe return of Haleigh. I do fear it will be a bleak outcome it's been too many days this child is missing and fact has proven if a child is not found within 48 hours it will no doubt not be good for Haleigh.

Folks, please understand that lie detectors are not accurate. Hence, not being admissable in court. On their best days and with good operators they are only 60% accurate. This girl lied and I highly doubt she was at home. Something is terribly wrong here and it is yet another sad story of people having kids that shouldn't. Just a quick note that hit me when it was made known Misty was out of the home/trailer. I haven't seen it mentioned as of yet either...but I think it could be someone who was 'partying' with her or someone who she was visiting with. They've seen her pattern of leaving the children when she comes to party/visit with their group AND thus leaves the party ASAP to grab Haleigh as he knows (or at least thinks) he has an alibi--in Misty's eyes. Furthermore, if Misty never tells the truth about her leaving the kids then he figures he's in the clear and the investigation will center around Misty/Ronald/family members first biding him time to do whatever he did to Haleigh. Maybe he's the one who came forward and told LE she was out partying thinking they would least expect him OR them. I know EVERYONE around there is suspect but then whoever did this knows this as well, but think they are more removed due to them knowing Misty's stupidity of leaving those children wide open for the taking. IMHO, she knows exactly what happened OR knows the perp. Great site by the way...stay the course!

I commented on another part of this whole issue on Haleigh...Everyone seems completely in sinc on all of these issues...The one thing law enforcement can do I believe is remove the 17 yr old out of the house! These reports of Misty sneaking out and partying have not been confirmed .. if she was at home and sound asleep, it is possible that a pervert could have gotten in, possibly through the front door (maybe Misty forgot to lock it or maybe it wasn't shut all the way) .. If he came creeping around the house at 2 am he would find the front door accessible and once he was inside, he propped the back door open with the cinder block and then grabbed the little girl and crept out .. after this much time, I doubt very much that the she is still alive.

This is the BEST and most accurate site I have came across as to what we have heard , see and know as to what may have happened here .
The time line on this makes me wonder printed on a site Misty's timeline that the cousin and others were there "after Ron went to work Re: 5 to 5:30" and yet someone mentions that same day Ron had a fight with someone so had to be before leaving for work that this person telling this never knew the guy ,where this guy was from then we read he had a fight with this cousin about stealing a gun and this cousin threw it in a ditch as he left so if the fight was earlier that day with Ron how could Ron have been at work when Misty said this cousin never stayed long
was there only about a half hour about 5 to 5:30 pm.
I am actually wondering if Misty can read the time on the clock.
That blanket washing is a big question wouldn't the rest of the bedding had urine on it?

OK What "van"? And who is "they"? And when/where did they "take" the van? And why was her blanket in that van to begin with? I have searched high & low on the internet, and cannot find any other newsreports or info about it. I told my husband in the beginning that I felt Misty was leaving the home and visiting with friends, and with all those preditors around, someone could have easily been watching her routine. She is 17 and tied down to those kids and I feel she in her own mind thought, well they are asleep and so I am out of here. It was very poor judgment. She is responsible for this child gone missing. She discovered her when she came home and didn't call, giving the preditor plenty of time. She panicked and had to make up a story so that Ron wouldn't want to kill her. She was afraid. Two questions. When Geraldo interviewed Haleigh's mother, and she said that Haleigh's dad was a fake cry, I have not once seen her (biological mom) cry either???? That really bothers me too. And IF she really believes he was an abuser, and would hurt Haleigh, WHY DOESN"T she have Haleigh herself? They showed a disturbing picture of a cut and bruise, maybe came from school, If u trully believed she was in danger, why didnt they call children services then? Why wait till now to bring this up? Maybe something would have come out of it, and Haleigh would be home now?
It also disturbs me that Geraldo said Dad HAS ANOTHER 17 year old g/f and a baby with her also......

I read somewhere that the searchers found a makeshift shelter in the woods not far from the back of the trailer (but don't know if that was sight distance or hundreds of yards or a mile), and that they noted it, but since they didn't have any reason to suspect it was part of the "potential abduction" they left it. (I don't know if that means they took photos, marked the spot and left the forensics for later, or what.)

I have been suspect of Misty's stories, but thought she was more of an abused ninny-teen than purposeful miscreant. I understand the semantics of language differences, where she tried to explain that they slept together, the story of the bed wetting, and then the reason for washing late... even remembering what clothes the kiddies have on when they go to bed. I don't know that a teen that isn't really a mom would be that careful about remembering details as a real mom or an adult would be.

I really don't think I can stomach too much more of the feuding family. (Geraldo's confrontational, self-serving "investigation" reminds me of the hype of "opening a sealed tomb/room" many years ago. More to give Geraldo some air time, and less about finding out what happened to the child.)

I have truly believed Ronald, Sr. from his first interview. I also think Misty does not know what happened to the child, but is holding something back. (Being AWOL between 10 and 3?) I fear so greatly for Haleigh, but more that this is another Jessica Lundsford story. There are so many "unknown" predators and pedophiles out there - it is just so scary and sad.

Sometimes when I am home with my 1 year old and he is being difficult and I am being a mom and comforting him and I am sweating and trying to keep it together..I wonder how on earth people with drug, financial and other problems such as being of a young age and lack of patience deal with such situations and how those precious kids survive under those circumstances....and then I read stories like this and it becomes clear that kids like that have almost a 50 50 chance. why has no one checked out the bio mom she took out an insurance policy she owes 17000 in back child support she hasen't shed a tear she is an admitted cocaine user check out her myspace there is 2 pictures of haleigh and 2 of Jr. and over 50 of chloe. I think if you look deeper at bio mom you will find she knew when Ron was at work and remember Haleigh was afraid of the dark she wouldn't have went quietly with just anyone?? sorry but I think bio mom was down on her luck and took a good look at the Anthony's sudden fortune and she maybe a copy cat!! all in my opinion!

I totally agree with you! It is so horrible when people are not right on priortys for little ones that are missing- lying- and covering up. It will come out in the end. I believe that if ANYONE came in the house- she would have heard it in that small trailer!!!!!!!!!
At night when everyone is asleep = usually everything is quite- and that little 4 yr old was probably scared to death alone! (she was not home) could not have been!

I think you've hit some major nails on the head with that post!! She (Crystal Sheffield?) is deadpan in al her answers... never really thought about that this time around!! I have to disagree with kristie a little. We used to live in a single wide trailer, and if you were in one end of it, you could not hear someone coming in and out of the other end. I doubt it was made any better than any other, but that was just my experience. I seriously doubt, though, a criminal would turn on a light and leave it... what would be the point to wake everyone up with the light on?

I have to say I am somewhat heartened that LE is holding stuff close to the vest on this, though. I know I would rather "know" where they are with the investigation, but my need (want) to know can't be of any help to find Haleigh.

With the little blanket found out of the door, it makes me wonder if Haleigh woke up, turned the light on, saw Misty was gone and went out the propped open door to find her. When Misty snuck in she probably did go first to the bathroom, then saw the light on and Haleigh gone. Dunno.

Bio mom said on NG that she had taken a poly and they the results to washington I know several people that give polys and everyone of them tell me that the examiner knows while the test is be adminstered if the person is being truthful or not and N Grace knows this too so why is she not questioning the bio mom more I see no tears from the bio mom or her family and now that Geraldo went there and accused Ron of being an informant he can't leave the trailor because the police are afraid some nut will try and hurt him. all I see is mud slinging from bio mom!and from the cummings they are crying and begging for Haleigh to be found. The bio mom has recieved over 20000 dollars and she still hasn't paid her child support and she has been heard laughing and joking saying its non refundable. the reason she is getting all the money is because her tent is on the main street the first one you see Ron is around the corner. I am begging if anyone can help Ron he still has to take care of JR and he hasn't been working and bio mom isn't sharing her wealth if you are on a blog or if you can please spread the word you can go to any Bank of America and donate to the Haliegh Cummings and it will go to Ron even if its just 5 bucks or you can send him a card Ron Cummings 202 Green Dr. Satsuma Fl. 63189 what I now wonder if this was Ron that owed the child support and health ins he would have been put in jail long before it hit 17000. Well, from the very start my concern was "Why is this 17 year old taking care of two small children all night?" Why does she have no home? Why would she want this responsibility? and where is the biological mother and her family?
I have a very responsible and obedient 16 year old, he babysits for us when we go out to dinner or to a movie and our two other children are 11 and 7. NO WAY would I leave him here all night with the kids. That is TOO much responsibility and he is too young, and remember he is my son, he lives here, he is very responsible. Why anyone would entrust the care of their precious children to a transient 17 year old is a mystery to me.
We can all assume that Ron and Misty are "playing house" that is no question, even if it appears to be statutory rape, they all seem to be okay with it, however, what 17 year old do you know that can't maintain a lifestyle with their own parents, can "parent" someone elses children? When she said she thought of Haleigh as her own daughter and then didn't even know how much she weighed, "30, 40, 50 or 60 pounds" shows you how little she knows about chidren or truly understands what being a mother is.
She has always had the pasty appearance of a meth or opiate addict. Ron does too, bad teeth, poor complexion, white faces, oily hair and skin.
My daughter is 7, she sleeps with a special blankie, she would never leave awake without it, she would never go anywhere awake with a stranger. Whoever took her, came quietly, knew her and comforted her or she would have been upset and crying. Someone that took her knew her and knew what she would need to get out quietly, soothing her in some way.
Or her unfortunate demise occurred in the trailer and she was removed out the door that had the cinder block because the perpetrator was a small skinny 17 year old girl who could not push the door open and carry her body out.
SOunds like Misty left the kids home(like she did every night most likely) partied, came home and Haleigh had either choked to death or hurt herself or been hurt by an intruder and she cleaned it up to hide her own guilt or she harmed her because she was high and then covered it up.
I see Mistys hand in this somehow. She may even turn up missing herself, by running away.
I know all of this is speculation on my part. But most of the time parents can pick out other parents lying about their kids and this one stinks all the way around. Unfortunately, there are too many kids like Haleigh, being raised in homes that are not kid safe or geared to nurturing young people. People no longer feel ashamed of lifestyles that used to be embarrassing and now the dysfunctional is the norm. All you good people and good parents, we need to keep up the good work and report child abuse when we see it. But also offer help to families that may need guidance or a point in the right direction. Some people just truly don't understand how to parent, and how precious their little ones are until they are gone.

Things are getting stranger by the minute in this case of the missing precious little girl Haleigh.I just don't think anyone who says that they have passed a polygraph has any knowledge that they have or have not passed but boy oh boy in there minds they have....ok back to reality!The girlfriend Misty 17 yrs old...was the last person to see Haleigh,has been questioned 6 times now???that is crazy,and still no arrest?I have to say from the beginning I have thought Misty had something to do with Haleigh dissappering,but I tried to keep a open mind since I first heard about Haleigh.I'm sorry but she is total suspect #1 in my mind,and that will continue unless she is cleared by police.The mother of RON the dad of Haleigh did say that Ron and Misty are on and off again does he suspect her too?I WOULD LOVE TO FIND OUT WHAT HE IS REALLY THINKING!....On the flipside about the baby girls bio-mom she has issues and has not had a perfect past either.I just think that what has happened in the past should stay there...drug abuse,physical abuse...that should be talked about in a court or with an attorney,not on the news when your little girl is missing!she may be bitter,her childrens father has a colored past but he has full custody of their children,has a job,house,and has been raising their children.she is bitter thats why the stories have come out but honestly that was pretty cold of her to bring up her and the dads druggie past and throw their dirty laundry out to millions..this is not the time or place for that.I just hope that this family will get some answers soon and that Haleigh will be found alive.God bless the children all around the country who are missing,and God bless HALEIGH.

Heraldo is the devil! Why do people put up with his lies! In my opinion, the bio-mom is the one that seems guilty, or knows who did it. When i saw her cry for the first time i realized that she was guilty, no tears, like a croc!! The dad is not perfect, but no one can say that he isn't acting like a real grieving dad. but for the bio-mom i get real bad vibes watching her,,,she's guilty!!

The problem that i am having with this thing is why would the bio-mom say anything bad about the father of her child during this terrible ordeal, even if its true. It seems to me that she is trying to put the cops on the father, like a guilty person would, to try to take focus away from herself. Ant mom that was going through that would be out oif control, crying and focusing an getting her child back. The first thing any non guilty person would do is take a lie det.test, so that the cops can look for the real suspect or suspects. She is acting like a cold hearted snake that only cares for herslf. Let me get this straight, there are actually people here that would take the time to make jokes about the disappearance of little girl? Shame on you. Evidently, you have no conscience. What if this was your neighbors child or a family member? How sad that you would consider this as an opportunity for making Anthony family jokes or finding this childs abduction humorous.
But back to the rest of us that are seriously concerned...
It seems to me that this case is losing its stamina. Perhaps because they already know something?
I agree with many posts about the lie detector tests, I think that when the family members and Misty took the tests and were not immediately arrested or questioned, they assumed they had "passed", but taking a detector test and passing are not the same. They could already have a person or two that have had odd results and they are just watching them or gathering evidence.
I hope they find something out soon.

Did Ron marry Misty so that he doesn't have to testify against her? Isn't that why people do that sort of thing during this type of situation?
I wonder if the reason the dogs hit on the dumpster is because little Haleigh had been there previously, but moved by boat later. Maybe the person temporarily hid her there, while they went for transportation etc...
Dogs are smart, their abilities to sniff out specific scents is remarkable, they have no hidden agendas and rarely if any mistakes are made regarding their expertise.
Perhaps she was there for a moment, then moved. Of course I would hope and pray this sweet child is alive and well but without a ransom or any further contact it is an obvious assumption that whomever took her from her home meant only to do her harm or had already done so when she was removed.
I have three children in a very large house, I can hear them get out of bed, how someone could come INTO my bedroom and kidnap one of my children and me not hear them would be impossible.
I agree with a post that I read regarding the "Propping" of the door, I have had to do that with my own door when bringing in a sleeping child from the car into the house. However, my husband can manage to do that without propping the door open, he is much stronger and lifting 40 pounds and maneuvering the door is not difficult for him. So, I believe whoever removed her from the home was female or a very small and unmuscular male.
I think Misty knows the entire story and she married Ron to keep him from testifying against her and she did the same for him in case there was even more truth to the allegations of abuse or misconduct on his part.
Just a theory.

Is it just me, or do all the people involved seem a bit odd? They all look like they are guilty of something, but then again I suppose we all are guilty of something. It seems like bio-mom always looks like she is going to "reveal" something and then stops short.
I still say Misty has the answers, and maybe even the bio-dad has his suspicions that she is not being truthful but either has done something himself in the past and doesn't want it revealed and if they are married, I don't believe that Misty has to testify against him.
Seems weird to go off and marry a woman the entire country has suspicions about having abducted your child, and in the 911 call he seemed to be accusing her of doing something irresponsible too. I think he called her a "B" word and asked her what she did with his daughter.
If she was returned today, what would happen to her? Would she get more time with bio-mom because of the publicity of her case, or would she be taken to foster care because of the way the family lives so close convicted child molesters and sex offenders and would they have to test negative for drugs for her to return to the home? They both look like meth users to me. Bad oral health, pasty skin and poor complexion for a 17 year old girl is not normal.

I watched the search for Haleigh on tv since it was first announced that she was missing. I have been wondering what ever happened... no more news on this beautiful little girl. I think in the midst of all the characters and some of their strange behaviours, that there is a bright, shining hope. I hope that Haleigh is alive, safe and well. Please don't give up.

This is such a shame. Now they are both in jail. This goes along with other comments. Sad but so stupid of them. Hasn't enough happened that they would know they are being watched like hawks?! I say go law enforcement! Give them hell until someone admits they know something! Crack Heads!

I always thought that Misty went out that night too. Why would someone not rape, harm, take Misty, a 17 yr. old instead of a 5 yr. old? Why did this person leave the light on and take the chance of Misty waking up? Something doesn't sound right here. I guarantee Misty knows, she has to know something. I mean she's not even coming up with scenarios. Not even "Okay, I sneaked out of the house and had to leave the door propped open or unlocked, and I think this dude that was at the party who happen to over hear me say the kids were alone, did it." I mean not even a clue. Did she have a key? Unless, it was something she did alone, or Ron and she did. IDK what to think of Ron yet. He may be innocent in all this, well, at least as far as harming Haleigh anyway, but we don't know enough about any of them to know what to think about them.
