Possible Evidence Found in Case of Missing North Carolina Mother Kelly Morris
October 02, 2008
With all the media attention on Casey Anthony and her missing 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony, only a handful of media outlets have been providing updates on the case of Kelly Currin Morris, a 28-year-old mother of two who went missing from her Stem, N.C., home on Sept. 3, 2008.
Over the weekend, a group of search volunteers found a torn orange shirt and a yellow gas can, which may be directly related to Kelly's disappearance. Both items were reportedly found not far from Kelly's home, near Robertson creek on Brassfield Road in Granville County.
According to a source close to the investigation, the shirt, which had been purposefully cut up to remove a name above the breast pocket, is allegedly similar to shirts that Kelly's husband, 34-year-old William "Scott" Morris, wears while working at his towing business in Creedmoor. The gas can is also of interest, given the fact that an arson fire destroyed the Morris home after Kelly's disappearance.
Investigators have yet to officially comment on the validity of the finds; however they have taken both items into custody and they are currently being examined at the Granville County Sheriff's Department.
This latest news comes on the heels of last week's revelation that investigators had obtained two search warrants in connection with the case. Unfortunately, both of those warrants - one obtained on Sept. 12 and another on Sept. 16 - have been sealed under a judge's order.
On the morning of Sept. 4, 2008, firefighters with the Stem and Providence fire departments were dispatched to fight a fire at the Morris's house, located at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road. The house and much of its contents were destroyed; however no one was home when the fire broke out. Scott Morris was allegedly at his towing business in Creedmoor and the couple's two young children, ages 8 and 5, were in school at the time of the incident. It was initially believed that Kelly was in Raleigh, where she worked for Nationwide Insurance; however, investigators soon learned that she never showed up for work that morning.
Kelly's car, a burgundy 2005 Honda Accord, North Carolina license plate TXP-5917, was later found abandoned in an undeveloped subdivision, less than a mile from her home. Inside the locked car, investigators found Kelly's keys, purse, and cell phone.
When questioned by police, Scott Morris allegedly told them that he had not seen his wife since the previous night.
"He was the last person to see her alive on Wednesday night (Sept. 3) at their home," Granville Sheriff David Smith told NewsObserver.com. "She was allegedly going to find a pet dog that had got outside, we think, between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m."
According to Smith, the dog later showed up without her.
On Sept. 12, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the state Bureau of Investigation conducted forensic tests at the scene of the fire which, according to Smith, have revealed that the fire was the work of an arsonist.
Investigators will not comment on whether Scott Morris is cooperating; however, Kelly's friends have openly criticized him for not getting involved in the search effort.
Anyone with information about Kelly or Scott Morris is asked to contact David Lohr at davidlohr@davidlohr.net. Anyone with information about Kelly's whereabouts is urged to call the Granville County Sheriff's Office at (919) 693-3213.

What a sin. Such an epidemic it seems, of women being killed by their husbands... the one person outside of your parents, that you are supposed to trust with your life.
Similar to that of a mother killing a child; the one person that child trusts implicitly.
Such a sad, sick world we live in at times.

I just read a report on one of the warrants that was made public and the husband in this case is a PoI with good reason - violent outbursts in the past - wall punching, computer throwing... says he went to bed at 9:30 but called his dad at 9:45 to come watch the kids while he (according to the dad) went to find his cheating wife. His fathers story has inconsistencies as well about how long the husband was gone. I just don't get what happens to a persons mind when divorce isn't better then death and calling 911 is replaced by hiding the body and burning the house! This poor woman and those poor kids!

Rebecca, very well put. It is crazy how many senseless crimes are committed by supposed loved ones. It's strange, we live in a great world with many wonderful people and at the same time we live among many many monsters. If we can learn anything from these horrible acts, it should be that we as people are so much better than this, there are other ways to deal with problems. Loving someone is so much easier and feels better than hating does. Kiss your loved ones today and be thankful for what you have, not what you wish you had, don't let these victims die in vain either. Use this to make yourself a better person. Only good can come from that.

pak31 is so right!.
Stories like this make me mad. A person should feel blessed to have a spouse and children to love, protect, and cherish. I'm single and I get upset when I see people that have a family and treat them like they're rubbish that can be tossed. If I ever marry I'll treat my wife like she's the queen of the world.
Kelly's husband sure is lookng more and more suspicious with all the evidence coming out. I hope Kelly's parents can see some closure and justice, maybe even the miracle of Kelly still being alive.
Thanks again Mr. Lohr for your continued work.

My niece, Sueann Ray, was murdered by her estranged husband on August 26,2005, the ten year anniversary of my daughter Heather's abduction. www.WhereIsHeatherTeague.com
Sueann's murder was well-planned for at least six months. Sueann was missing for 164 days and her body was found on her brother-in-law's land. Now, a precious little girl's mommy has been taken from her. Charity was only seven years old. The husband told where Sueann was buried and he is serving life in prison. Divorce would have been the answer here also. Then, a dad could come visit his child and a mother could have raised their daughter. Looks like this is what has happened to Kelly. Those precious children will have to know that their own daddy killed their mom. There are no words to describe this unmerciful crime. Maybe heartbreaking would be the best way to describe these situations.
