Caylee Anthony : Ground Zero : Day 2 Update 3
September 06, 2008
All totaled, nearly 1,200 people showed up today to assist in the search for Caylee Anthony. That is a pretty amazing turnout, compared to the low numbers we were seeing last week.
One particular volunteer, a lady who is now answering phones in the command post, made my day when she said that this blog was the reason she came out to volunteer. I thought that was really great and I found it very touching.
In my last post, I informed you about the radio interview I was doing today with Shawn Wasson, host of "The News Junkie" on 1290 WJNO. In case you did not catch it, I'll be posting a copy of it as soon as the station uploads it to their Web site. Shawn's a great guy and I always enjoy going on his show.
After the interview, I drove out to the Anthony's house. It is maybe five miles from the EquuSearch command post, so whenever I am in route I try to swing by there to see if anything is happening. There was supposed to be a rally there at 3:00 p.m. but when I arrived there, at about 3:15 p.m., nothing was happening.
I uploaded two new videos of neighbors discussing the case in front of the Anthony house. You can watch them here.
When I left the Anthony house, I went to the command center and got involved with another search effort. I went out with a group of about 30 volunteers, to a wooded area next to Lee Vista Blvd. We canvassed the area pretty good but did not turn up anything of great interest. Like the previous searches, we found more bones but they too did not appear to be human. Nonetheless, we followed protocol and they were all flagged for closer inspection by a trained professional.
As I am sure you have already heard, the item that sheriff's deputies removed from George Anthony's vehicle was a handgun. This is the information that I wanted to share with you this morning, but at that point I could not find a credible source to verify it.
As an aside, you'll have to forgive me if I am not much of a wordsmith right now. I have been averaging about two hours of sleep a night and between that and dredging through the woods everyday, I am pretty exhausted right now. Regardless, I will continue the search and do my best to assist in any way possible, while at the same time giving you all the latest details.

Im kinda wondering where grandma and grandpa were the whole month caylee was missing. Or any of the ex boyfriends of caseys. I mean did anyone close to casey (parents, brother, other men she called during that time)... did any of them leave state or go anywhere questionalbe???? Could someone else have helped her move the body to a location that she was never at herself??? If only casey was involved... maybe she turned off her cell phone while she went to where ever she went... i just cant wait til this whole thing is over...

I have been wondering if Caylee's car seat has been located? If not, is it possible that Casey put her body strapped in the car seat and then put it in the ocean or other body of water possibly to weigh it down. Would the car seat eventually resurface being water logged and with Caylee's body still inside the car seat.

Dear Dave, I am a forensic psychologist who used to work at
Children's Hospital in L.A. until my career went in a different
direction. Currently, I am writing two books, one on parenting
and one on sociopathy so you can imagine the impact of this
tragic and, yes, bizarre case on me. I have followed your
column each day since I found it and, when I saw that you
were going down to aid Tim Miller and group, I was SO moved.
I am up here in the mountains of Oregon, stuck in bed, and I
long to be back in the field, doing something. Somehow, I feel
like I am there because YOU are there. In addition, I know you
will get us alll teh most vital information. I DO have a new
typepad blog but it isn't up yet so this is my only
way of getting to you and I really wanted to thank you. I
can see how George A. might want to have a gun, lots of people in less serious situations do, but it is interesting
that he hid it. That part concerned me.

Linda P., that was an ingenious idea. My thoughts about Cssey
is that, given how she is hanging in there, I believe an
attorney referred to her as a "steel magnolia" last night, she
would have attempted to hide or decimate the remains (IF she
is responsible) in more ways than one, like smothering her,
burning her, weighing down any remains in water, and cleaning
like mad, whatever it took. When I say, IF she is responsible,
I mean only to give her the slim doubt that any of us deserve
but also feel ludicrous doing so. It worries me that she
hasn't yet been charged. It worries me a great deal.

So very glad that there are many people showing up to help search with TES and the SD. My prayers and heartfelt gratitude goes to all of you. May your sacrifices to do this be returned in many blessings coming your way. I pray for success in the search for Caylee's sake. Personal thanks to you, Mr. Lohr for giving us updates at ground zero. I want to thank everyone who is supporting TES and the searchers in all the ways they are doing it. May Caylee be found very soon and receive the justice she so richly deserves.

Thank you so much for searching and updating us of the search. Thank you for giving time to Caylee's story. I ask everyone to help in searching Caylee's body. Cindy A. is misleading the investigation, pointing the searchers to other directions so that the body of Caylee could not be found. I thank Equusearch and the volunteers too. And for Cindy's information, Equusearch do not need this publicity because even before Caylee's story, Equusearch has been well recognized and respected for helping victims of crime.

Could Casey have gotten locked out of car with Caylee inside? This could explain the phone calls and the scratches on trucn as well as the knife found inside car later? Also, Can BF that picked her up at Amscott verify what was actually in the "grocery Bags"?

I feel so bad for Cyndi and George, everybody is being so hard on them when it's obvious they want their granddaughter safe. They are obviously in denial and defending their daughter. Even if deep down they believed Casey killed Caylee they aren't going to admit it to the press or to themselves for that matter, they want to believe their own daughter could not do anything like that to her daughter. It also seems to me like Casey has a control freak syndrome when it comes to her mother, listen to the way Casey talked to Cyndi on the phone when she was first arrested. While Cyndi was freaking out, crying for her granddaughter, Casey said "Oh my god! I see I've wasted my time calling there!" She also said to her brother on another call "all anybody cares about is getting Caylee back" and then she retracted and said "which thats all I care about too"
I think this girl is definately a sociapath, I think she killed her baby girl, I used to think accidentally, but not so sure anymore. I get so mad everytime I see her face on TV. She had a gift with that little beautiful little girl that she didn't deserve. She should have just let Cyndi and George raise Caylee! I pray every night that Caylee is found dead or alive! I wish it was alive, but that precious baby deserves to be put to rest if she is not alive!!!

Has anyone attempted to look for or search Sand Lake?
Casey got a tattoo on July 2nd that has "Bella Vita" in it surrounded by flowers.
Sand Lake is alos known as "Bella Vita at Sand Lake" right there in Orlando and not far from the airport.
Also there is a lake right in the complex or nearby called
Lake MARIE Casey and Caylle's middle name). There is also a street named Cindy Street in the complex and another lake called "Boo Boos" and the property backs right up to the local hospital.
All these lakes are surround by flowers. Tattoo is fresh as Casey got it while Caylee went missing.

who tipped the police about the gun? chances of that being an insider are high, don't you think? what was the motive behind providing that tip? may not have much relevance, but that leaves a big question mark

David,
I am just following along on the computer with you and I am so tired. Every chance that I get I check your updates. You are a wonderful journalist and person. Thank you for confirming your info instead of sensationalizing even though you are probably so tempted. You still always wait to confirm, and I am so grateful that I can trust what you write to be the absolute truth coupled with heartfelt well penned information. I know that you are tired but I just hope that your staff can shorten this message and get it to you in jest. I send people on other blogs here when they ask for my sources or if I know where to find documents/ media, etc. Responsible journalism seems to be an oxymoron in this age of mass information. I appreciate it, and you practice what you preach, how refreshing.

Dear Dave,
I have been reading your blog and I wish I could do SOMETHING to help in this search - but alas, I live in Ohio!
Is there an address to send donations to Equusearch???
Thanks for all that you are doing!

Where is the command center would like to help search today
Posted by: mike d | September 07, 2008 at 07:41 AM
That was the question that was in my head...Why would the handgun be hidden? And YES, when you put it out in your car in a place that is not readily available it appears you are hiding it. My own husband has a (has permit/registered) handgun and it's in the house, near his side of the bed, locked and I believe UN-loaded. Not out in the trunk of our car! I hope that has NOTHING to do with the case. For Caylee's sake. Why would he hide it??? Put it there??

David-My prayers are with you as you take your time and energy to search for Caylee. We appreciate it. I will be in Orlando, FL Sept. 18th. If by chance the situation has not changed I want to donate my time and help.
I understand that there is a protocol given by police for the search, however has Jay Blanchard Park been searched? Casey keeps mentioning this park. She tells her brother that she could have lost her "Other" cell phone at this park. Also I have read reports that this is where Casey dropped her off at to meet the nanny and her sister.
This park is not too far from home either as she mentions.
I was watching Nancy Grace last night and majority of people believe there was another person involved. Padilla believes that Casey has confessed to her brother in turn has told Cindy. Do you think that they would/wouldn't go to authorities with this information? Seems as if Lee is on the fence while listening to the conversations. Like he is trying to piece everything together but Casey is giving conflicting stories. Not sure how the system works as far as the client and the lawyer....if she has confessed do they still proceed until she is charged or is this something that the Jose has to tell authorities?

Did you have any personal revelations, regarding this case, since you have been in closer proximity to it? Do you feel differently about Casey Anthony and her involvement in Caylee's disappearance? Have you gained any new insight into the Anthony family,in general?
Posted by: CB | September 07, 2008 at 09:19 AM
Am I understanding that the carseat wasnt in Casey's car?
I am also curious as to what was found in the grandparents backyard. Those who were digging and such were taking pictures...I wonder exactly what there was to take a pic of...Or is it just standard practice to do that when searching for evidence?
A part of me thinks someone killed Caylee but then there is this part of me that thinks that her egg-donor isn't that smart to pull something off this clean. But then again she is a daughter of an ex-police officer. I am going to search the net and come back if I find anything that catches my eye. I wish I could be there to physically search.

I suggest you search near Jesse's home, there is a reason Casey went to his house to take a shower right after the gas cans were stolen and right before she dumped the car. :)

Hello Dave,
In regards to George Anthony having a gun - I haven't heard much about his career as a deputy sheriff in Ohio. He is often referred to in the news as a former Deputy Sheriff from Ohio - but what does that mean? I have family members who have served as police officers - and the word "former" makes me question why he left. It doesn't say hi is a retired Deputy Sheriff. Do you have any information on his career?
Thanks,
Maggie
Posted by: Maggie Shagg | September 07, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Why don't they make Casey go out and search for her daughter. They could have a police officer with her. Have her walk for hours in 90 degree weather, thru rain etc. if she had do that everyday for 8 hours maybe she would tell the truth to get out of searching she would rather be in jail instead of suffering in the heat. But all the Anthony's are in there air condition house. Probably laughing because they know they won't fine her. They're all in on it. I think she is under the new concrete the Anthony's put in. Or burned and the bones are in the dumpster. Which would have been have been empty when this all started, so no way can they find it there it has a month of garbage piled on it already.

Theresa M. and Family posted: "Am I understanding that the carseat wasnt in Casey's car?" According to the 400+ pages of discovery submitted by the OCSO, the car seat was listed in the items inventoried in the car. Don't ask me where I found it because that was a LOT of pages to read but I read them all. Pretty interesting stuff actually.
Posted by: Teri | September 07, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Okay, this is way left field but when I heard that OCSO were called out to the Anthony home at 2:45am based on an "anonymous" tip of a gun in George's car, my first thought was, "who, other than George himself, would know that the gun was there?" They went directly to it. You know, George is no idiot, he's lived with Casey all of her life and who knows a child better than their parent. I'm not so sure that he's on the same "band wagon" with Cindy, Lee and Casey, who all seem to be more or less "birds of a feather". Who is to say that he didn't submit the tip himself, hoping that it would be grounds to revoke Casey's bail? Just a thought.

Thank you very much for following this case and giving such unbiased updates... I've been following your blog more closely than the news programs these days!
Liars like Casey Anthony, IMO always hide bits of truth in their lies; especially when they haven't had time to prepare the lie and its details... based on that, while reading through the court documents again, I noticed a random coversation she had with a friend at a Subway (I'll find the transcript and post it here later).
He asked about Caylee and Casey replied that Caylee was with her nanny in Sanford, Fl. I looked Sanford up on the map and I think it's near the airport. On Lake Monroe, near Fort Mellon Park... if you can't look at this yourself, maybe you could pass it on to the search team of Law Enforcement...
Thanks again for everything you're doing for Caylee...
Posted by: Linda | September 07, 2008 at 02:39 PM
I wouldn't waste my time taking Casey....she would just lead you on a wild goose chase. She maintains Caylee is alive, so she's not going to help look for a body in the wooded, marshy areas anyway. That is why her family isn't out looking also, they believe she is alive. They have no intentions on looking for a body...they are following Casey's script.
Posted by: PL | September 07, 2008 at 02:58 PM
By the way...why hasn't Casey provided a sketch of the babysitter who took her? If her story had any truth, wouldn't she have provided a sketch to the public to help find her? That would have been a big contribution on Casey's part. But Nothing, Nothing at all from Casey.
Posted by: PL | September 07, 2008 at 03:02 PM
No I actually remember hearing that when the car was found, the car seat was in there. I guess everyone is different, but when I would leave my kids with a babysitter, I always left the car seat. I wonder if any friends of hers could say if she did that or not, if she did that would tell me that she was the last one to see Caylee.
Posted by: G | September 07, 2008 at 03:07 PM
I believe that items have been found in this location and that is why detectives want Tim to continue the search, they know that she is out there. Finding the body will get a sure conviction. I feel that is why the family and Casey want to search the stop, laying low locked in their house waiting scared. If they felt strongly Caylee was in the locations that they mentioned, they would be there themselves with friends and family members searching, not locked up in their home.

i find it rather disturbing that for 2 years the grandparents have never met the babysitter, and were not concerned when casey disappears for several weeks with caylee. wouldn't casey's parents know where she was employed or if she even had a job. i feel the grandparents either have their head buried in the sand or are not being totally honest with the investagation

Reading all of this it sounds like we are all playing the board game CLUE.....It`s ridiculous and extremely sad that the whole country has to wonder and guess where this baby is ,meanwhile Beast #1 is at home eating good, searching the internet, and going into a room privately with the GRAND MASTER BEAST (her lawyer),to have privates meetings, who knows what is going on in those rooms now that she can`t go out, have fun and drink....I can`t imagine how this ``THINGS`` can go to bed at night, because Beast #2 and Beast #3 are guilty as Beast #1,I`m not calling them by their names because they don`t even deserve that, they are not humans...
I`m pretty sure that she got rid of the baby really well,as we all see this ``Thing`` is not stupid either,I mean, all of us know that she is lying but the truth is that somehow she is been manipulating everything for her convenience, look how manipulated are the parents, ridiculous.
My question is that since she is in Florida and with all of this evidence about the chloroform,if they decide that it was a first degree murder, and she is sentenced, could this can be the death penalty for her....?
And David,I think Caylee Anthony is closer than anybody suspect, she even said one day that in her guts she felt that the baby was ``fine and close to home``,I remember a case where the husband put his wife`s torso in a bag inside a plastic bin full of other stuff, this plastic bin was located in the garage.Did anyone search in that garage...they should take over that garage and search every single drawer, bins,EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I was wondering about the car seat. If she had left Caylee at the Nanny's. Wouldn't the nanny need the car seat to take Caylee in the car to the parks etc. That Casey told people she was at. Also Casey said she went to work at Universal Studios and we know that is a Lie! So I wonder where she went? This of course is part of her original lie. Not the new scripted version. The Anthonys wouldn't help the searchers and give something of Caylee's with her scent on it. To help the dogs with the search. If they believe that Caylee is alive. What did they have to lose by helping? I know they are in denial that she could be dead. However they are not doing everything they can to help to find her!
God Bless Caylee where ever she is.

When they charge Casey with 1st degree Murder Charges and they will,And when the people of Florida find her Guilty and they will,And when they give Casey the DEATH PENALTY and they will, Then i think the state of Florida should Televise her Execution and let us all watch her beg for life and know that Justice was served.

I wish that Casey had of commited this Crime in TEXAS, Because we know how to take care of People like her.
Posted by: linda strait | September 07, 2008 at 07:47 PM
I agree, those sociopaths, the Anthonys, all know more than they are allowing. Also I want to scream it " If Kaylee's body isn't under that concrete in the Anthony's backyard, then it was dumped in a Alligator swamp." It is a horrible thought, but Casey wanted to erase any trace of little Kaylee; she erased all her pictures.. Right? This method would have bought some time for her. Alligator's will eat anything.

I have been watching this and reading about this case since the beginning. I think that the grandparents know something and won't tell. If the Grandmother was asking questions in June about where Caylee was and Casey was giving a different story, why didn't she call the police? I have a 2 year old and this could happen to her. I really hope not. I really think that the police should get a warrant and dig that slab of concrete up. If Casey borrowed a shovel over the fourth of July weekend and brought it back a couple hours ago and the concrete was laid why didn't the police dig that up. Why didn't the police take Caylee's clothes that were in the back seat of the car? This is all fishy to me. I really do believe that the grandparents do know something. Cassey isn't even worried about her daughter. She hasn't even shown any remorse. She hasn't even went out looking for her daughter. If that was my daughter I would be out looking for her every day and night til I found her. I would do anything to find my daughter if she was missing. I pray that Caylee is found and that she is laid to rest soon. I believe that she has been dead since June.
Please find Caylee and lay her to rest.

YES!! TELEVISE THE EXECUSION! I'LL ORDER PIZZA AND HAVE A GANG of people OVER! I THINK CASEY IS BLACK MAILING HER FAMILY- THEY are ALL FOLLOWING Casey's self-penned SCRIPT. I HOPE THE ANTHONY'S CRACK UNDER ALL THE PRESSURE. HURRAH TO THE LOUD PROTESTERS OUTSIDE THE HOME- KEEP THE HEAT ON!
