The mental health information in this story is rather questionable. For instance, it's well documented that only about a third of people with schizophrenia get worse without meds or treatment. Another third stay about the same and a third apparently get better, though they may relapse later. The majority of those with bipolar will have worse highs and lows over time without medication, though.
Also, it is extremely unusual, and some professionals say impossible, for someone to first show signs of schizophrenia after the age of 30 or 35. 52 is very late for onset of bipolar, as well.

This is such a tragic story! She could be alive anywhere. This man needs some closure and hopefully it results in finding her alive. It's so hard to get an adult in your family to go to a doctor when you think they are having issues. Unfortunately you can't make them and when something like this happens, it makes you wish you would have tried a little harder.
