The Anthony Family Circus: Padilla vs. Biteboy

August 27, 2008

If P.T. Barnum were alive today he'd kick his clowns to the curb and hire Casey Anthony as his star attraction. He was, after all, the man who once said, "No one went broke underestimating public taste."

In a case that continues to get more bizarre every day, it should come as no surprise that bounty hunter Leonard Padilla is now at the center of a criminal complaint that has been filed by the lead singer of a band who attempted to serenade Casey Anthony last week.

On Sunday afternoon, Rick Namey Sr., manager of the Florida rock band Biteboy, saddled up his band, loaded their instruments on the back of a flatbed U-Haul trailer, and headed down the road en route to the Anthony family home. When the truck pulled up in front of the house, band members Dorothy Hall, Steve Catania, Rick "Ricky" Namey Jr., and Mark Massengale began singing a song they had written specifically for Casey Anthony, titled "Casey's Song - Wine Sick Mind." However, before the band could finish playing the song, Padilla came out of his RV command post to confront them.

"When he came and confronted me in the cab of the truck he said, 'I'm gonna have you arrested,'" Namey Sr. told Investigation Discovery, adding, "In fact, I'll give you a little smoking gun that nobody has done anything with - when he came up to the cab he said I was interfering with an active murder investigation. Now he is on TV every day saying this is a lost child, which is it?"

After having words with Namey Sr., Padilla confronted Namey Jr., who was about midway through the song.

Float like a butterfly sting like a bee!"I saw him approach my son and take a swing at him," Namey Sr. said. "Leonard missed and his hand hit the mic stand. The stand fell over, and it cut Ricky's hand as it came down across it. If Ricky had not pulled away, he [Leonard] would have hit him hard. He didn't hit the mic stand on purpose; he did it because Ricky pulled away from him."

According to Namey Sr., his son filed a criminal complaint against Padilla with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"They turned it over to detectives and the state attorney's office," Namey Sr. said. "We are working with them trying to press prosecution for assault and battery."

Padilla was unavailable for comment; however, he did tell the Orlando Sentinel that he took a swat at the stand because he was upset about the incident.

"I felt sorry for the parents," Padilla said. "I'm just glad they weren't there."

Namey Sr. provided Investigation Discovery with a copy of the lyrics to the 'Casey' song; which read, in part:

"You can have your sick parade on someone else's pain. So don't bring me your pain, you're the only one to blame."

Sunday's incident was not the first time Biteboy has made national headlines for their unique brand of serenading. In June 2006, they traveled to Topeka, Kansas, where they played in front of the Westboro Baptist Church, a controversial fundamentalist Christian church that is led by the Rev. Fred Phelps.

"We wanted to let Phelps know what we thought of him protesting soldiers' funerals by telling the soldiers' kids that their daddy was in hell," Namey Sr. said. "We thought he was pretty tasteless, so we decided to be equally tasteless."

When asked why the band picked Anthony as their most recent target, Namey Sr. said, "We wanted to let the world know what we thought of her."
