It's Not a Good Idea for a Man to Tell His Woman She's Fat

September 11, 2009

Gary's BlogIn April 2009, while enjoying a family meal at a restaurant in Barcelona, Spain, a woman's boyfriend told her several times that she was fat and that she should not eat any more food that evening.  He also purportedly told her that because she was fat, she would have to find herself another man.  When the couple returned home at approximately 3 a.m., the woman asked for an explanation of her boyfriend's comments and behavior during dinner.  However, he ignored her and went to bed—a big mistake.

The woman, who had been receiving treatment for depression for approximately two years, which she later blamed on her boyfriend's purported derogatory comments and treatment of her—along with a need to take medication for the depression—apparently seethed for awhile before becoming unhinged.  Losing her self-control, she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the man in the neck while he was sleeping—eleven times.

In excruciating pain and bleeding from his wounds, the man was able to turn on a light and shout at the woman, which apparently helped bring her back to her senses.  Realizing what she had done, she began helping the man, covered his wounds, called the police, and took him to a hospital.  The man survived his injuries, but the woman was recently sentenced to two years in prison by a Barcelona court after extending leniency toward her because she was considered emotionally disturbed at the time of the attack, made all the more worse by mixing alcohol with her medication that evening.
