Update on the Killers Who Poured Gasoline Down Their Victim's Throat
July 03, 2009
The convicted perpetrators in the brutal, horrific case involving the ghastly murder of Simon Everitt, 17, who was thrown into the trunk of a car and driven into the woods near Great Yarmouth in the Norfolk area of the United Kingdom, tied to a tree and had gasoline poured down his throat before being set on fire were sentenced on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Norwich Crown Court. Readers will recall that the crime was so shocking and disturbing that family members of the killers called police and turned them in, and later testified against them at trial.
Jonathan Clarke, 20, of Telford, Jimi-Lee Stewart, 25, and Maria Chandler, 40, both from the Great Yarmouth area, were each sentenced to life in prison by Mr. Justice Calvert-Smith. Clarke will be required to serve a minimum of 27 years before being eligible for parole; Stewart will serve a minimum of 22 years, and Chandler at least 17 years. During the sentencing Clarke and Stewart were seen leering from the dock by spectators in the gallery, and could be heard whispering to each other.
