Blue or Gold?! What Color Is This PUPPY?

The internet is ABLAZE about that dress — and so are we about THIS puppy! We've been circulating this puppy photo around our offices and the Animal Planet family is torn apart over the color of this adorable pup. We can't decide — what color do you see?! Keep staring and give it a few ... Post in the Comments section below!

All jokes aside — dogs can only see two colors: blue-violet and yellow.  They have one-tenth of the concentration of color-capturing cones in their eyes that humans have. So while humans can see a vast array of tones, dogs only see those two colors along with any combinations of the pair. The rest of their world appears in shades of gray.  Read the full report here >>

Recognize this precious golden-blue pup? That's right — she's the lovely Golden, Pearl, a star from Puppy Bowl IX. Check her out in the Starting Lineup >>

Animal Planet #MEOWS in Austin

By Matthew Windsor, Publicist for Animal Planet

Over the weekend, Animal Planet clawed it’s way to Austin, Texas and left a gigantic sized scratch mark on the SXSW scene with it’s participation in a "paw-some panel," Cat Cash: The Economy of Cats, and with a celebration of all things feline at the Cats Live Here party.

On Saturday, Grace Suriel, social media director of Animal Planet, appeared on the feline themed panel to discuss the network’s role in the global phenomenon that is internet cat videos. Grace mentioned Animal Planet’s dedication to cats on-air runs the gamut from shamelessly cute with the likes of TOO CUTE! KITTENS and LIL BUB’S SPECIAL SPECIAL, to ferociously frightening with MY CAT FROM HELL. In addition, she touted the success of APL L!VES’ Kitten Cam and the network’s role in changing the perception of cat ladies online. Gracel was joined by Scott Stulen, of the Cat Vid Fest, of which Animal Planet is the exclusive sponsor, Will Braden, creator of Henri Le Chat Noir, and Ben Lashes, manager of famous feline’s Nyan Cat, Keyboard Cat and Grumpy Cat, who made a surprise appearance at the panel and sent social media into a frenzy. The panel was also covered by The Guardian, and The Star Online.

#CatCash Fever at SXSW

If you were on Twitter Saturday night, you may have stumbled upon some #CatCash -- a trending topic that exploded out of our event at South By Southwest.

We were proud to be part of a panel at SXSW called Cat Cash: The Economy of Internet Cat Videos with our very own Social Media Director, Grace Suriel, as well as our pals Ben Lashes (Manager of Grumpy Cat, Nyan Cat, Keyboard Cat and others), Scott Stulen (Curator of the Internet Cat Video Festival) and Will Braden (Creator of Henri Le Chat Noir).

The idea was to take a seriously fun look at how Internet "cat-lebrities" have inked movie deals, inspiried touring festivals and generally made money. You know this is real when folks like Shark Tank's Mark Cuban visit backstage.

Here are some of our favorite moments and quotes as captured in the medium across the Twitterverse. As you'll see, surprise guest Grumpy Cat pretty much stole the show:

Kohl the Penguin: The Ultimate Saints Fan

The NFL playoffs are officially in full swing and each week the road to the Super Bowl becomes narrower.  Remaining clubs leave it all out on the field for the good of the team and for the pride of their city.  Millions of fans pack pubs and houses making sure not to miss a single second of football greatness.  In recent years, the game has grown so large that it has transcended beyond the boarders of the United States and into other parts of the world.  Who would have thought that America’s most popular sport would transcend even to the Animal Kingdom?

Kohl the Penguin is one feathered football fanatic who has a lot to say about the matter.

Rooting from his hometown at the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, Kohl not only declared who he thinks will win the whole shebang but also gave us some great Twitter commentary on the January 4th game.

Kohl’s signature rally-call for a Saints victory is not easily duplicated by the human species.  He claims it’s the “good-luck chant” that spurred the Saints’ to their most recent victory.  It’s caught on enough that the rest of the colony at the Audubon Aquarium of America’s has decided to join in!

River Monsters: And Do The Harlem Shake

Sometimes even the best anglers need to let loose!

Between fishing and filming, Jeremy and the hardworking production crew from River Monsters have a lot of time on their hands. And as we see from this video, they had a quite a bit of it while waiting for a plane in Guyana. A layover never looked so fun!

Sometimes when filming in very remote locations, it takes time for news and trends to get to you. But once it does, it makes for a great video!

Remember to watch an all-new episode of River Monsters this Sunday at 9PM E/P on Animal Planet. In the meantime, visit our site, play Name that River Monster and watch highlights from the show!

Our Favorite Animal Versions of the 'Harlem Shake'

It's the viral sensation that has taken the Internet by storm. And, no, we're not talking about cats (though they do rule the interwebs).

We're talking about the Harlem Shake!

For some reason, this song by Baauer has inspired pretty much everyone, everywhere to create their own take on the video, which features a lone dancer in an everyday situation who's then joined by a huge group of other people who are often dressed in costumes and dancing crazy.

Our Discovery coworkers and Science Channel buddies did their own versions, but here are some of our favorite animal versions of the meme.

Meme-worthy: Tommy Lee Jones vs. Grumpy Cat

Perhaps the greatest things to come out of Sunday's Golden Globe Awards was Tommy Lee Jones's unimpressed face, which many have taken to comparing to Grumpy Cat, the adorable cat who just happens to have a sour expression (though she claims to not actually be grumpy at all!)

Meet another unique cat:
