Earth Insect or SciFi Creature?

In my last post I shared some pictures of a cute mystery creature.  Today's post is another odd animal that looks like it could be out of a fictional story.  This time it's an insect and I can easily see it terrorizing people in any number of SciFi films.

Can you identify it?

Yep, Wheel Bug, we have those around here, and my mom will about knock you over trying to get away from you, because she says they bite or sting or whatever. I remember as a kid being told this and freaking out if one got on you. They REALLY like Sunflower Plants...and tons of them hang out on them.
