Octopus Walks on Land

11/23/2011

Octopus on LandI'm a huge fan of octopuses.  They are so alien compared to humans and mammals in general.  They have no backbone, or any bones at all.  They have eight legs covered in suction cups.  They have a hard beak inside their fleshy bodies that they use to crush crabs and other crustaceans.  They expel "ink" - a black opaque liquid - to hide themselves from would-be predators.  They are incredibly intelligent.  Some have deadly venom and others have stunning ability to change their color and even their shape.  But I've written all about those things here before.

One thing they don't do is walk on land.  Until now.  Check out this video of an octopus emerging from the sea to walk across the land.  Totally odd!
