Oldest Two Faced Cat Breaks Record

Meet Frankie and Louie, the two cats faces belonging to the oldest living "Janus" or two-faced cat on record. They (he?) have reached the ripe age of twelve, earning them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Janus cats are named after the Roman god of doorways and transitions, who also sports two faces. They suffer from a congenital condition known as diprosopus, which causes the animal to form a duplicate of its face while in the womb. (Given the subject of this blog is "animal oddities" I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the name of the gene responsible for diprosopus is called "sonic hedgehog homolog" after the video game character.)
Most Janus cats don't live more than a few days. Frankie and Louie have figured out to to share a body and have been thriving since 1999.
