"Odd" Animals on Access Hollywood

03/04/2011

I did my first appearance on Access Hollywood Live this week.  As I often do when I do television appearances, I brought some amazing wildlife ambassadors with me.  Each of the animals this time around have amazing adaptations that, to me, aren't particularly odd, but I've found time and again that people who don't work with wildlife or in conservation like I do often find the most basic animal adaptations to be strange indeed.

Snapping Turtle Access Hollywood
This snapping turtle is a common species over much of the eastern half of the country, yet people still find them strange and bizarre.

I try to use that perceived oddness as a hook to get people interested in protecting wildlife.  Wonder and awe at an animal can be a great way to get people interested in conservation.  That's true for both the millions of Access Hollywood viewers as it is for hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, who started out very hesitant about the animals but as they learned more, got a lot more comfortable.

Here's the clip - enjoy!
